Question about Maytag MGRH752CDS (Gas) Stainless Steel Kitchen Range

Slow preheat with gas pulsing

Oven purchased in 2007. Preheat has been slow recently. Igniter glows immediately after turning on bake. Takes about 90 sec to ignite gas. Some smell of gas initially. Gas seems to pulse on and off every few seconds during preheat. Gets to 300 in 15 min or so. No problems with broiler or range. Thinking igniter, but would like to know how to troubleshoot and verify before sending out for the part. Measure current? Other option seems to be the regulator, but there are no issues with other gas... Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Was definitely the igniter that was the problem. No problem with the regulator. Heats to 300 in 5-6 min after replacing the igniter. 20 min job altogether.

The gas regulator is faulty and will need to be replaced. Here is the part you need to order.

Would a faulty regulator not impact all of the gas outputs - range, broiler and bake? Other solutions suggest the igniter as the problem... How can I tell for sure which?

SOURCE: matag gas oven won't or is slow in comming up to temperature.

Hello and welcome to FixYA!
You are 100% correct in your suspicion that the oven ignitor is at fault. If you want to know "for certain" you can check that ignitor in circuit using an amprobe and looking for at least 2.9 amps, however I would say all you need do is replace that ignitor and your oven should return to proper operation. The gas smell is a result of an ignitor being on the "ragged edge" of being able to open the warp switch in the gas valve. Instead of opening up, it is "burping" the valve enough for you to smell gas. Your part number is a
12400035 and sells for around $50 or so, depending where you buy it.
Thanks for using the FixYA! service!

My oven takes 35 minutes to preheat to 350 and keeps fliping between bake and preheat. Temp goes up and down.

Hi,

Sounds like your ignitor is becoming weak, Just because it glows doesn't mean its strong enough to work correctly. If you have a meter, check for amperage (round 2.2 - 2.6, Flat 3.2 - 3.6) to be good. If you don't have a meter, replace the ignitor first is what I would do. Good Luck

Model # 36275621302 stove not maintaining proper temperature. Takes long to bake. Broiler comes on ok. Bottom burner gas comes on and ignites in preheat but then the igniter glows hot but the gas doesn't...

The problem is usually the igniter not reaching the correct amp draw .When the igniter does not reach the correct amp draw it may allow the gas valve to partially open or not open at all. The igniters are inexpensive and easy to replace. This video will walk you thru the correct procedure for testing an oven igniter. It may be a different model but the testing will be the same. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations of your specific model. Not all models are available. All parts come with installation instructions.

Maytag Prec touch 750 lower oven takes too long to preheat

This is a common problem that happens when the oven gas control valve is sticking. This can be caused by a weak hot surface igniter or a defective gas control valve. One thing that you can try(be very careful doing this) is to give the gas control valve a light tap with something hard like a wrench when the oven is turned on,igniter is glowing but the burner is not on. You will need to remove the broiler/storage drawer at the bottom of the oven. Once you pull the drawer out you should see the gas control valve at the back of the range. Try turning on the oven and lightly tapping the valve housing. This may loosen up any debris inside the control valve housing that might be causing the problem. If the oven burner comes on then try completely turning the oven on and back of several times. And when I say completely I mean turn it on after the igniter is not glowing and burner has shut off. This works about 30% of the time. If the burner control valve stick after trying this procedure then it could be the control valve and/or the hot surface igniter defective. The hot surface igniter would need to be disconnected from it's harness and tested with an OHM meter. Most igniters should have a 500 to 700 OHM reading. If you get a reading that is way off then the igniter is defective and replace it. If the igniter tests good then the gas control valve is suspect and replace it. Most appliance parts retailers will test your igniter for free. When the igniter is on it should glow very brightly. If it is dim then that is a sure sign it is bad.

Hi ,I have model jgs8850ads,it takes along time to preheat, about 40 min. what could this be? please respond.

is this a duel fuel with an electric oven..... the bake is the bottom and the broil is the top both cycle on and off to preheat the oven.... if ur lower bake element is burnt out then u woould expereicnce the problem u stated..... if u have a gas oven then ur ignitor or glow bar is probably burnt out....... either way it sounds like your bake element or bake ignitor has failed

Burners work,Broiler works but oven does not preheat

If everything works on your range, but the oven, the most likely culprit is the igniter for the BAKE manifold. What is confusing me, though is the statement in your question where you say the "oven will light up, but never get hot". Yet, you say the oven does not ignite. Can you clarify this? In some ovens the BAKE and BROIL manifolds BOTH light when preheating, to reduce the warm up time. Once the desired temperature is reached the manifold not in use, will shut off.

In any case, on a gas range, the burners for the BAKE and BROIL manifolds use an electric glow bar type igniter. There's a separate igniter for EACH burner. When you make a bake or broil selection on your oven control, the respective igniter begins to glow. After the igniter reaches a certain current potential, the gas safety valve is opened, gas flows to the manifold, and voila! You have ignition. It can take as long as 90 seconds for the burner to ignite. What can happen over time, is the igniter becomes weak or fails. If the igniter becomes weak, it will still glow, but it never reaches the desired current potential to open the gas safety valve. The result: you end up with an igniter glowing with no ignition. And, if you're like me, you're left scratching your head wondering why the thing isn't working when it "looks" like it is. You can easily tell if the igniter is working by opening your oven door and selecting bake. Watch the oven pan in the bottom of the oven. You should see an orange glow coming from under it. It here's no glow at all, the igniter has probably failed. If there IS a glow, a current reading will tell if it's within tolerance. The following link explains more on these igniters and how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r401858-replacing_oven_igniter_gas_range

The bake igniter is a common fail item as it gets used more frequently than the broil function. On your range both igniters are interchangeable. You can purchase replacements on line at searspartsdirect.com, repairclinic.com, or appliancepartspros.com. The part number is WB2X9154. Shop all three sites for the best price.

I hope this helps you. If my assessment of your symptoms is wrong, or if you need further assistance, please let me know.

Oven not heating(magic chef

Sure. If your oven would light sometimes, but usually not, or take a very long time to ignite, then replace the oven igniter. Even though it probably is glowing, it needs to draw a specific minimum electrical current (in amps) for the gas safety valve to open and release the gas. Also low voltage can affect how many amps the igniter draws, so that may be a factor, but not as often.

Chances are the oven ignitor will need to be replaced.  Look and see if it glows.  If it does then it is weak and not opening the gas valve to lite.  Let me know what you find.

Should be able to remove the bottom drawer and unplug the ignitor from below.  Or you can cut the wires on the old ignitor and splice the new one in using ceramic
