Question about Sony CDX-GT540UI - CD/MP3 Receiver

Open Question

Sony Car Stereo CDX GT540UI Buttons Unresponsive

My car radio randomly stopped working when I went to start my car one day. This problem has happened twice before, but I was able to correct it by holding down a few buttons. I can't seem to correct the issue this time though. The buttons on the face plate are completely unresponsive unless I quickly press the eject button once I start the car or take off the face plate and put it back on. When I do this I am able to cycle through the different sources by pressing the eject button, or I can control the volume by holding down the eject button and turning the volume nob. Also, pressing the eject button once will turn the radio off. I have read over the user manual for solutions, and have also tried pressing the reset button as well as holding down the reset button for ten seconds with no results.

Hi. I have exactly the same problem and the stereo have the same behavior when tak the faceplate off. Do you find a solution?

I never was able to find a solution for the problem and
ended up having to buy a new stereo.
From other forums that I've read, it sounds like there is a harness
adapter needed to hook up new stereos to certain cars that have OnStar ability
even if they do not use OnStar. There is
a work around to get the radio to work without the adapter, but my guess is
that if you install the new stereo without the adapter the stereo will
eventually begin to have problems and fail.
Here's a link to a forum which discusses the issue, http://www.automotiveforums.com/t917161-....

SOURCE: My buttons on the stereo will not work. the only button that is working is the source button. I do not know what happen nor how to fix this issue. It's very annoying. I just bought the stereo last

If the stereo is less than one year old return it for repair or exchange.

SOURCE: Faceplate not responding / acting very weirdly

Sounds like a bad connection with the faceplate and the multi connector that the faceplate mates with when closed. check for dirt and bent pins on both connectors. Luck

Sony XPLOD CDX-GT200 CD Player keeps going back to demo mode

This is happeneing because the stereo does not have a battery power connections. The yellow wire is for a constant 12 volt connection. This connection is for the stereo's memory.

I have a sony mp3 xplod car radio, buttons wont work on it to operate probaly, any suggentions as to what is wrong?

I had the same problem with my sony CDX-GT540UI and solved it! I just kept clicking the "source/off" button when the display was showing the demo and suddenly it started switching to USB/CD/AUX etc. This means that the contacts inside the micro-switch were stuck in the down position, continuously making contact, and blocking the signals from the other buttons. Have to replace the micro-switch now.

Sony cdx-M8800 car stereo buttons wont work

There is a ribbon cable that runs all the flip panels electrics, these are prone to breakage.
I have seen some of the cables on e-bay for a few quid, and also if you google "sony x-pod ribbon cable" you will get a big choice of places to order, and get instructions on fitting.
