Question about RCA TruFlat 27F520T 27" TV
Turned iy off with the remote and it will not come back on changed batteries in remote still not working tried power button on front of the TV and it will not come on
This set is part of a group of RCA sets made a few years ago that all have something in common.
We see them come to our shop: will not turn on with or without a high pitched whine before they are turned on
Understand I have seen and repaired about 40 of them---In all cases the High voltage transformer is bad and most of them also the horizontal output transistor (that part is connected directly to the transformer.
I am familiar with this kind of issue and what I first noticed was the transformer was a bit small in size for the job it does.
Regardless, the parts needed are no longer available from RCA but both parts the set will need are available in a Generic way---Total parts cost is under 35 dollars for both (they are soldered into the main board) and I or any good tech can replace both and have the set working in less than a hour---I average about 30 minutes total time.
Here attached is a photo of the transformer and the transistor is easy to find.
similar to this in looks.
based on my experience both parts will have to be replaced to get the set up and running again, not just one or two of the sets had this, there are about a dozen models from 27 to 36 inch screens with this.

If you forget your password you can reset it. Make sure the TV is off. Simultaneously press and hold VOL< on the TV?s front panel and CLEAR on the remote for approximately 5 seconds. Enter a new password next time you access the PARENTAL CONTROL menu. Front Panel Lock 1. From the PARENTAL CONTROL menu, press the up or down arrow to highlight Lock Fr. Panel. 2. Press the right or left arrow to turn on (box has check mark) or off (box doesn?t have check mark) front panel lock. Of course if you don't have a remote that can bring up the menu I don't know how this can be done.
