SOURCE: My Onkyo SKW-520 subwoofer has

This is caused by the aging of a component from the amplifier - as they age the capacity gets lower = the resistance to the lower frequencies increases = the sound gets weaker.
To fix that you must open the subwoofer and check all the electrolytic capacitors from the signal path - all the way from the input RCA jack to the output of the integrated amplifier.

How are you sourcing the program material to the sub? This TX-V940 receiver doesn't have specific sub support.

=== Just the same...

You need to first determine which is at fault - the sub or the receiver.

Connect the Sub Input to Tape Rec on the receiver (but DO NOT select Tape) and see if the sub reacts to your playing FM, for instance. If it works you need to go back to the receiver and the unknown method you're feeding the sub.

You could also test the sub with a CD player output but use a recording that starts low because you won't have volume control.

Onkyo skw 591 subwoofer...blue light is on and no sound? any thoughts?

Hello, To test the subwoofer when the blue light is on if you apply your thumb to the end of the subwoofer cable (the end that you would plug into the receiver) there should be feedback from the sub. If there is no feedback then the sub is not working correctly. Thanks, FJD

It's possible that you have accidentally switched off the sub-woofer outputs on the receivers. Onkyo have a speaker set up test. You should run that and see if the speakers are on and that a signal is getting through to them.

I do not see any inputs to connect a subwoofer to my Onkyo A-9555 integrated amp. I would like to know if it is possible to connect it and what kind of subwoofer should I buy for that wit the best...

You amp has no OUTputs for a sub, but if you really want to attach a sub you'll need to get one that is self-amplified and accepts >>>stereo<<< High Level or Speaker Level inputs.

Otherwise your amp's volume control won't also control the sub's volume.

You would feed it full-range audio from the speaker terminals on your amp and its internal amp would use that to develop its own power output for the sub.

Here's one example.

Subwoofer issues

Hi,

The fuse blows when the current that passes through it are beyond its rating. This could be brought about by excessive consumption of the load, in this case the amplifier powering the sub-woofer.

Repairs would involve component level and require that you be familiar with electronic components and circuitry, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. Often it is just the finals that needs to be replaced. Of course we cannot discount the possibility of other components or section such as the power supply.

The smoke indicates something heating up such as a resistor or diode or a capacitor.

Should you be uncomfortable opening the unit and doing a DIY (do-it-yourself), then perhaps you need to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Should the downtime and cost of repair be no longer economically reasonable, purchase of a new unit might save you further trouble.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
