I have a MAH3000 washing machine. a few months ago, it had smoke inside drum area when the cycles finished (per wife, i could never verify). it soon started sounding like a jet engine. last weekend i replaced the bearings and it is still smoking. it is doing a fine job cleaning the clothes and spinning the water out. last night after a complaint from the misses, i opened the door and there was a fine misty smoke. it smelled faintly of neoprene (best descpition i have) and damp. the smoke lingered a long time and did not smell or feel warm at all, it actually felt cool and damp. i hope you have heard similar and can help pinpoint the problem. damp, cool, lingering smoke inside the drum is confusing me?!?

Hello, The earlier Maytag Neptune front loaders have a balance ring on the inner tub that has liquid in it and that causes the sloshing sound when you turn the tub by hand. That is normal.
I noticed that you have a MAH3000... Have you replaced your door latch wax motor yet? If not, it will fail and damage your control board located behind the timer. See NeptuneHelpSong for a video that explains the failure.
Maytag Neptune defective door latch wax motor update by: Anonymous
The older Neptunes, such as the 2000 Stackers, MAH3000, MAH4000 and the MAH5500A series had some issues which I am sure Maytag has corrected these issues in the newer machines...
There are thousands who have been burnt by the door latch wax motor failure. What happens is the machine will stop spinning because the door latch will fail to lock. Deep inside it is caused by the mechanism that locks the door. The wax motor will draw too much current and damage the control board by burning a resistor (R11) and a triac (Q6).
However, if Neptune owners know to replace the door latch wax motor they can prevent the control board failure from happening. Please tell everyone you know about this important fact.
The older Neptune’s also have a couple additional issues such as the moldy door boot and the reliability of the motor / motor control board. All three of these issues were involved in the class action lawsuit a couple of years ago. See http://www.neptunewaxmotor.com for more Neptune information.
It could be a leaking water valve. The MAH3000 has two flavors, the earlier model had (2) extra wax motors in the soap dispenser for the bleach and softener controls and the newer ones have the bleach and softener valves integrated into the water valve assembly.
Contact me via the www.neptunehelp.com site and let me know which serial number you have and I can detemrine which water valve you will need.
