Mine displays the BIOS start-up screen for a second, then goes blank.

Comes back on for a second when the hard disk bootup start, then goes blank again.

Comes back on when the Windows startup logo is displayed, flickers a few times then stays on. Originally didn't stay on for Windows desktop, until I changed the refresh rate from 72Hz to 75Hz.

(Gateway Pentium 2 G6-233 running Windows 2000 Pro)

    Some further info about this:

Returning to the BIOS boot screen by Windows / Shut Down / Restart gives a steady display with no going blank.

Allowing Windows to boot up to the desktop and then powering up the monitor from cold also gives a steady display. It's only when both the PC and monitor are started up from cold that this problem seems to occur. Weird!

christoph972, This really sounds like a SMPS going into SHUTDOWN MODE after detecting a fault in the "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp" electronic ballast circuit which is called an INVERTER CIRCUIT, or it has a problem all by itself. The big question is? ? ? WHAT is causing the fault? I need you to do the flashlight test to evaluate the condition of the LCD monitor's "switch-mode-power-supply". With a KNOWN-GOOD, fully booted pc that has the WIN-desktop showing, reconnect the S760 to the pc. then and only then push the "ON" button for the monitor and note what happens. After the screen goes black, shine a bright flashlight at different angles about 1" from the LCD screen. Get back to me with the results of test. Did you see or not see the WIN-DESKTOP? Also visit YOUTUBE and search for and view videos of typical lcd monitor disassembly and or lcd repair. FYI only!! The longer ones (8-12min) will be more informative. The symptom you have with this freebie monitor is classic! It could possibily be repaired for $12 or less. Get back to me here at fixya by posting another comment to the above stuff you already did. Dell LCD E207WFP (Switches on Briefly then goes Off)

two case trouble reason and need to do:
1) back light driver (inverter) works not stable and DC power protect. it near some component damage, should repair inverter by egineer.
2) back light (lamp) over life cycle so protect by the inverter, should change new lamp (regular parts)
3) DC power supply not stable or component over life( wave filter capacitor), should be replaced
