Blows the 20amp fuse when the heat is turned on

When you replace the fuse the unit comes on, but as soon as you try to heat something, it makes a loud humming and blows the fuse.

It has a short. Its likely the power $5 power diode.

It has to be checked first if its good then the mag tube may be bad.

Its likely the diode. You can test it by removing it and using a ohm meter to test it. Voltage should only flow 1 way if it flows both ways its shorted.

My microwave just made a loud sound. It still runs but doesn't heat up. Is it likely a fuse & if so what do I do?

fuses make very little sound when they blow so a loud sound in a microwave is an expensive sound
best take it in for a proper diagnosis and quote as many loud sound repairs cost more to fix than a new unit

Kitchen Aid microwave KHMS105EWH-0: I started to heat a cup of coffee, it momentarily interrupted power to the kitchen, fluorescent lamps went out, then slowly came back on. More below.

Because of the loud snap you are hearing, my guess is you have something shorting out in the high voltage section of the microwave. I'm surprised it is not blowing the internal microwave fuse yet. Average repair cost depending of what part it going bad is approximately $150 to $200. Considering the age of your micro my suggestion is put the money towards a new one.

GE Advantium 120 SCA1000DWW03 blowing 20amp fuse

Our unit was doing the same thing,
took it into the repair shop, they said there was nothing wrong with the unit, replace the main breaker that supplies power to microwave and try again.
Sure enough the breaker became defective, and we never had issues with it before, but now the unit has not had a single problem.

Microwave popped and now does not heat

Okay, first we need to separate the situations. You were boiling water on the stove and had the range hood fan running to **** up the steam. Then you put something in the microwave to heat and you heard a pop and then zip-o.

The water on the stove has nothing to do with the situation, the fan you turn on is not part of the microwave, so it has nothing to do with the microwave.

The pop you heard and then the humming suggests the magnetron failed. You said you found a blow fuse and replaced it and still nothing, right? The magnetron is the most likely culprit...I would think it is safe to say that the magnetron shorted and drew enough current to blow the fuse.

Replace the magnetron and if that doesn't work, let me know here. Good Luck!

Makes a loud buzzing noise and does not get hot

Have seen this many times.

Sounds like a bad CAP since a bad diode would blow the fuse and a bad mag would likely do the same thing.

Since yours is making the loud 60hz buzz you need to replace the capacator that will likely fix the problem. A $10 fix

Fuse keeps blowing.

couple questions -
what else is on the circuit,
and what current does the oven need

there are whirlpool over-range models with
1200watts of microwave,
1500watts of convection power, a
60watt bulb and a
375watt fan

over 15amps -20amp circuit needed

if you inadvertantly replaced a higher current fuse with a 15amp fuse, it will blow every time.
the install guide http://www.whirlpool.com/assets/pdfs/product/ZINSTALL/8206589.pdf reccommends 20amp
not a solution, something to check,
