When webcam is installed it sometimes shuts the computer down

Computer is a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop with Microsoft and WindowsXP

    every time I turn on my Philips SPC220NC webcam on , it shuts my computer down. Computer is a Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop. 3years old.

cpu maybe overheating, check all fans are working, maybe a fault in motherboard. There should also before an error report log on your operating system which might give you a clue. try putting your hard drive into another pc (as a slave drive) and scan it for viruses before putting it back into your pc as the master again.

Why does My Dell Inspiron 531 computer keep turning off


There are several possible causes for this. Laptops are notorious for dust buildup and overheat issues. Take compressed air and blast out the vent areas. If you can push enough air through the vent leading to the CPU cooling fan, that may clear out dust clogging the fan, preventing proper CPU cooling.

The next possible issue is a threat.

Boot into safe mode - keep repeatidly pressing F8 key as soon as you power on - until a menu comes up. Using keyboard up/down arrow, select "Safe Mode" (with networking if available).

Next, install Malwarebytes (free version) and perform a full scan. Also scan using your current antivirus.

You may need to reinstall IE. Go to Microsofts website for details of how to do it.

I reinstalled windows xp on dell inspiron 6000 i caanot get updates etc because ie will flash on then off. i cannot install the drivers needed for the laptop can you help me please


If it is a fresh install of XP then the browser is an older version. Download and install the newest version of IE and try the updates again. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/Internet-explorer/default.aspx

You can also get most of the drivers from the dell site, just look for the service tag on the bottom and enter it into the site to gain access to the drivers.

Dell Inspiron 530 randomly shuts down and restarts


Sounds like it could be a virus. Or, a heat buildup problem - are all fans inside machine working? Is the fan inside the power supply operating? Was there any work done inside the computer recently?
If the hdw is all ok, go out and buy yourself a copy of Norton Internet Security 2009 - 1 user lic - $49.99 @ Staples. Do *not* buy any earlier vers. of this software! Install, update it, run computer computer scan - probably will find/remove some/many viruses.

my inspiron 530 giving me trouble. Blue light is on, but the computer goes no where. Try to start by shutting down and restarting but the start sound keeps coming fora long time and nothing happens. New Computer with Vista shuts down by itself when not in use


To get to the Event Viewer, click the start button and in the search box at the bottom, type

eventvwr

and press Enter. Click Windows Logs and check the Application and System logs for any errors that occur when the computer shuts down.

If your computer was fine before the RAM upgrade, take the RAM back out and leave it alone for a while to see if it shuts down.

Also, change your screensaver.
