Sony Bravia KDL40W4500 Remote Control on Sony DAV S500

Hi,

I have connected a Sony DAV S500 surround sound system to a Sony Bravia KDL40W4500 via the optical output on the TV to the optical input on the DAV. In the TV settings, i have changed the audio output from TV to audio system. I have changed the volume level from fixed to adjustable. I get sound fine...

My problem is, i cannot control the volume of the surround sound (or the TV output volume) via the bravia remote control. This is frustrating as i will need to use 2 remotes! Hate that.

Can anyone advise on how i can control the surround sound volume via the bravia remote?

Thanks,
Luke.

I don't think this has an Optical but a Coaxial connection. You might try a coaxial audio cable not optical.

SOURCE: problems with hearing sound from bravia LCD tv through bravia DAV-HDX275 theatre system

The fiber optic port on back on your bravia tv is only for when your using a over the air antenna and watching local atsc channels in your local market. You need to run the fiber optic from your hd cablebox if it has one or your hd sat box if it has one. If you don't have a set top box with the fiberoptic port on it you can use a digital coax cable from the cable or sat box to sound system. The only other way to get sound if you don't have a cable or sat box is to run the red and white rca audio cable from the tv to the sound system and got to the audio setup on tv and turn the tv speakers off and you might have to adjust the audio to fixed instead of variable.

SOURCE: Sony Bravia Dav-HDX279W and comcast HDTV Cable box connection.

Like above, use an optical connection (need fiber optic cable) or a coaxial connection (single RCA cable). HDMI might also work, but I personally haven't checked. Connect the audio outs from the cable box to the audio ins on the home theater. The TV will only need a video connection from the cable box, as well as one from the home theater (for DVDs, onscreen menus).

Hi,
First try with yellow video output of DAV-S500 in yellow video TV input to get its picture. (yellow output means composite video out)
Green-Blue-Red video output is component output that will be turn on when you switch the unit into Progressive picture mode, that option would be available in Menu of DAV-S500
Hope this info will help you.
Thanks.
