Laptop was working fine till yesterday evening. Even now it is working fine till the laptop is connected to AC power supply but the charge sttaus will never go above 30%. Everything is working fine as normal but while booting the laptop I am getting this error as "AC adapter not recognized and system will not perfrom optimally" press F1 to skip the warning or F3 to reboot it.

  • ruchit_bansa Jan 12, 2009

I have checked through the google and loks like many people are facing this problem and there is no issue with the Adapter.

  • ruchit_bansa Jan 12, 2009

Yeah people tried with new battery but the problem seems to be the same.

  • ruchit_bansa Jan 12, 2009

As I have gone through the various tech forums many people gave variuos options which worked in some conditions and dint work in some.

What i understood that its a very common problem with Dell latops.I was looking for a way to figure out where exactly is the problem. If at all i need to but a new AC adapter or replalce my motherboaqrd I can certainly do that, But it should guarantee me that isue has been resolved.

    Anyways thanks for your help.

    Regards

This may sound stupid but these mistakes are made.

Is the a.c. adaptor plugged in?
    Is it the right adaptor?
    Do the wires look damaged?
Does the adaptor charge your battery at all?

Either check the adaptor yourself or have someone check it to make sure it is putting out the required voltage. If not it sounds like you just need to get a new adaptor

When you looked this up online did anyone solve this by installing a new battery?

The mother board detects the power coming into the computer and if any part of it is not right the computer has no way of knowing that is the correct adaptor. Since computers require a certain amount of power to run all of the components if it detects it is getting an abnormal amount of power it will display this message. If you know there is no problem with the A.C adaptor this is your only other option. I would say to keep using the Laptop as a desktop until it won't boot anymore. and make sure you back up all your info on an dexternal device frequently.

I just wanted to ask why i got a thanks for trying rating. we walked through all possible fixes and determined there was no way to fix this besides a rebuild. So in your opinion how does this constitute the associated rating?

When I started my DELL Inspiron 1525 running Win 7 Ultimate, I got a white-on-black screen which questioned the voltage from power adapter. Diagnostic program run.. Stopped with the following msg: Error...

2000-0142 and 2000-0146 are hard drive SMART errors, indicating the HDD will fail.
To boot message about the AC adapter was a BIOS level message that normally appears when a Auto/air ac adapter or other 65 watt ac adapter is used to power the system.

Dell Inspiron wont power up and battery is hot enough to iron my shirt. Wha t is the problem here?

Possibly a defective battery. Be careful with that. Try powering up without the battery, only on AC. If that doesn't work try just the battery. If neither works then it is possible that there is a short in the system board which is causing the battery to overheat. Basically, there are three possibilities, the AC adapter, the battery, and the system board.

Dell Inspiron 1545 AC Adapter error message

-check the system battery information and charger information of the computer; restart the computer, while the computer is booting up, press F2 repeatedly; check "battery info"
-if it stated ac adapter = unknown device ; update the BIOS (-visit support.dell.com
NOTE:other computers may have different BIOS, if it is not the same you may have to consult manufacturer
-click on drivers and downloads
-click or choose by service tag
-download the BIOS and install it on the computer)
-check information after updating; if same message AC adapter = unknown device; call manufaturer for a replacement AC adapter, if status has changed it is a battery problem or motherboard, contact manufacturer to test battery

I had the battery not recognized on boot up. then

the Dell AC adapter has a sensing pin so the bios can determine the wattage of the adapter. If the system cannot ID the adapter, the battery charger circuit is disabled. You'll need a functional DELL ac adapter to get the battery to charge

I have dell inspiron 6400, Suddenly system doesn't recognize my genuine Dell 65W power suply which was working for 3 years

Please open Bios by pressing F2. If in Power settings it shows the ac type unknown ur system board needs replacement. If it is showing ac type none then the ac adapter needs to be replaced

Dell inspiron 1501 work fine turn off last night now wont turn on

You mentioned trying a different battery, try a different AC adapter.

When plugging in the ac adapter to the wall, see if the POWER LED comes on on the adapter, then when you connect it to the computer, see if the LED stays on.

If the issue occurs with both AC adapters (No battery installed) then the motherboard has failed. If one ac adapter works but the other doesn't then the adapter is bad

Laptop won't dock

The inspiron 600M will not function in a D-Dock, but will work in a D-Series port Replicator. (Although the D600 and 600M share the same motherboard, the bottom plastics are different)

After trying the 600M in the D-Dock, it is possible the dock is damaged. I would undock the D630, then delete the docked profile. power off, dock, and reboot and see if it detects and works.

AC adapter not recognized

If you don't get any errors when you startup on battery then all you have to do is call Dell. Get work order number and send them the laptop and adapter. They are very fast. I sent a laptop to them last month and I had it back in 3 days! I was surprised.

AC adapter not recognized

The AC adapter has a small wire in the center of the connector to the system. This sensing wire, if bent or broken will cause the error you mention.

Check the inside of the connector, since it is new, you can call Dell 800-624-9896 for a replacement adapter.
