Tried Fn+F9 did not work. In fact tried it 3 or 4 times and suddenly a light appears below f10 and half the keyboard goes haywire!. Had to reboot. I have Windows 7, and nowhere on the Start or Control Panel is there any mention leading to Touchpad settings?

Is there a icon in the Tray Notification Area? Did your laptop come with Win 7, was it upgraded from Win Vista? If so some features may not work properly. Is it 32 or 64bit? A list of drivers can be located here, your model, sub-model should be addedhttp://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/i...

Try reinstalling the touchpad driver.
You can download the touchpad and device drivers for your model laptop from the Toshiba WEB site from their download page. Make sure you enter the model of your laptop so you can get the correct drivers. Please click on this link: -

Touch pad not functioning

Hi jon bernardo...

To fix an unresponsive touchpad on your laptop, reactivate it by using the Function key on the keyboard and the Fn key.

This process is different for each computer manufacturer.
If unsure which Function key enables and disables the touchpad, try each one at a time and then
attempt to use the touchpad after each one.

A...Locate the "Fn" key of the laptop keyboard.
The "Fn" key has different colored text or the key is a different color.
B...Locate the function (F1 through F12) key at the top of the keyboard that disables or enables the touchpad on the laptop.
The key typically has an icon that resembles a touchpad with a finger touching it or a touchpad with a diagonal line through it.
C...Press both the "Fn" and touchpad Function key at the same time to reactive the touchpad on your laptop.
Move your finger along the touchpad to verify that it works. Press the combination at any time to disable the touchpad again.
Note: Mac computers use "F2" to enable and disable the touchpad.
D. Sony Vaio Users: Start>Settings>Control Panel>Double click the Mouse icon.
Look at the top left hand side of the page, at the top and make sure that the "Tapping" box is unchecked, if it is checked then, you will uncheck it.
Please take time to rate me thumbs up

Toshiba laptop touchpad not working

Most likely your problem is that the touchpad was disabled. Enabling/disabling could be done in two ways:
1. press Fn and F9
2. in control panel, mouse, you will find the option regarding enabling/disabling touchpad (in some machines called internal pointing device)

I have some how deactivated my touch pad

power cucle your computer make sure that you turn off ther computer completely.

if still the same then you need to uninstall the youchpad driver under uninstall program. look for the Synaptics TouchPad Driver.

I check the model of your computer under the toshiba wesite and I found out that you have a synatipcs driver.

Then go to this link to download the driver
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=DL&os=&category=&moid=2175704&rpn=PSLB0U&modelFilter=L300-ST2501&selCategory=3&selFamily=1073768663

Note:
The touchpad still works even without the synaptics driver. Once you uninstall the touchpad driver and still yur having the same issue then it is a posible touchpad issue means the hardware itself.

Touchpad not funjctioning on Toshiba Satellite L40/45 laptop

You might have inadvertedly disabled the touchpad.

1. Press Fn + F9 to enable the touchpad.
This key combination acts as a switch, enabling or disabling the touchpad: press once to enable (if it is disabled), then press again to disable.

2. If the touchpad still doesn't respond, check the settings in the mouse control utility.
Click on the touchpad icon on the right side of the task bar if you see one or click Start button/Settings/Control Panel, select the Mouse icon and Press Enter.
Change the settings if necessary.

Toshiba usually set the keys Fn+F9 as the touchpad enable/disable - the touchpad software has to be running in the taskbar to allow this however.
