Hi, I will buy a used Takamine EG340SC-NS but the gain button works backwards

Hi, I will buy a used Takamine EG340SC-NS but the problem is that when i went to tested i notice that the gain button works backwards. The min. level its the max. level, any body else have this problem? and the indicator light of "low battery" its on when i turned up the volumen level to the maximum, its this correct or a failure? This is crucial to buy the guitar because the seller tells me that its an origin failure and im not sure about that. The guitar its made in china and every time i more and more disappointed of this failures, please hel me! thanks . . .

What probably happened is that somebody changed (or replaced) a volume control (commonly called a pot, short for "potentiometer," but got the two outside terminals swapped, as to how the wires attached. No big deal ... just swap the wires (WITH NO POWER ON, and no connection to any power sources or other equipment)!

That is working backwards from what it should be. I suspect a wiring error. Since this is a recent purchase, do NOT risk voiding your warranty. There isn't any real good documentation on the tuner.
I am not sure which tuner you have HOWEVER with one type, the FIRST press will turn on the tuner with the sound going out as well till the tuner goes off. The SECOND press silences the sound and is tuner only, the THIRD press turns off tuner and passes the sound. This is different than a lot of tuners and you will need to do three presses to restore sound instead of the usual two.

SOURCE: This is for the takamine

Most of the pedals are daisy chained right from the guitar. The output of the daisy chain goes into the DI box set to ground lift. An XLR to XLR cable goes from the DI box to the amp or mixer. Do NOT try to loop the sends and receives of the amp through PEDALS! The sends and receives are LINE LEVEL which is too high for pedals. The sends and receives are for external effects MODULES and EQ's that take line level. Some of those effect units have a foot switch to turn them on and off.

Hi Michael:
I just Googled Takamine Acoustic guitars and got a bunch of hits.
My suggestion to you is that you do the same and try to find a guitar thatr is similar to yours and see what the asking price is.
I`ve played a tak and know that they have a good feel and sound.
Best of luck.

Where to buy TP4T pickup

You can try repair it. They are pretty basic. I would look for poor solder connections, and reflowing all solder joints in it would be prudent.

The hum is likely from a gain stage with a bad solder joint on the input isolation capacitor. Also check other wires and check for bad solder connections on the pickup connections as well. It can even pick up hum through a bad shieid/ground connection in the jack on the guitar

I ASSUME that you plugged your guitar into a DI box that then used BALANCED XLR cable to the Mackie board??? The guitar generates line level and the Mackie board inputs are mostly mic level... you will get distortion if you overdrive the Mackie board. You could try going into line level jacks, HOWEVER if you go any distance balanced interconnects must be used. Even the line level jacks require using TRS balanced cables. Try is using a DI box, and preferably one with a gain switch. Also fiddle with the ground lift switch on it for least noise or hum. I use the LiveWire brand DI boxes and they seem to work fine. Then it is important to set the gain with the trim on the MAckie so you don't clip. Also be aware that an acoustic guitar can "hear" speakers and you can get feedback or regeneration that will sound like you are in a cave.

My son has a Takamine acoustic/electric. He plays in a band an is very accomplished. He and I both like the Takamine. He had a Fender acoustic/electric and sold it to keep the Tak. I have a hand made acoustic that I play at church. I like his Taka better. And I'm sure it's cheaper than another Taylor. The Tak. doesn't compare to the Taylor but it is a nice guitar and the electronics are good. One guy's opinion.

Thanks for using FixYa.
