Question about GE Televison & Video
Today i turned the tv on and it was fine then all of a sudden the tv screen went all screwy. It looks like everything but the middle of the screen is shifty. You cant see the channel numbers or half of the outer edges of the channel are missing like the screen is magnified.Could a Bulb be going out? or is my tv fried
If it is so badly curved the channel display is hard to see you have a part in the set bad---these like most have a pincussion circuit--it is individual parts that make the set have a straight picture on the sides especially, years (decades) there were controls in sets for this but to make sets cost less they use fixed parts.
It will not be an expensive part in most cases but finding it and replacing it in a older set may not be economical.
If you really like the set call a few shops to see if they will work on it and get a ballpark estimate.
Let me know if you have questions.

That's either a high voltage problem, or a deflection problem. WARNING, CRT Based Televisions have potently life threatening voltages inside them, and should be serviced by trained personnel only. With that out of the way. According to http://www.repairhelper.com It's a capacitor failure Fault - Width and E/W correction fault Remedy - Replace R626 and C630 I don't have a manual so I can't tell you for sure what the resistor and capacitor do, or where they are located.

SOURCE: can only see half the picture
your problem is in vertical output section. the ckt which is connected to vertical output section is called feedback ckt. please check. 1 loose contact in feed back ckt. 2 mostly this problem is due to electrolytic capacitor failure. 3 vertical output IC or transistor failure. 4 check for proper supply to vertical output. 5 low value resistor failure in v/output ckt (.in rare case) IF YOU ARE NOT TECH PERSON PLEASE TAKE HELP.

If you have static siugnal, sure TV is not dead.
Check the aerial cable, ensure it is well plugged in and getting signal.
If you are using a receiver box, check cables to TV and receiver (freeview, sat, cable etc.), try setting channels on receiver again, if it does not work but you get static, then either the cables or receiver are defective.
Test the TV on standalone , connecting it to an external antenna.
Tune again the channels, and save the preset.
If still no signal then the antenna socket on the TV may be defective.
Try using the TV with a DVD.
If you can watch DVDs, and TV is not keeping channels preset, and you tried all the above, at this point htere may be a fault in the tuner card inside tv.
Call the phone number listed on tv user manual to get support, and eventually repair it.
