Question about Aprilaire 700 Humidifier
I have a Aprilaire 700 humidifier which worked fine when it was new 3 years ago. However, now it does not seem to add any humidity to our house. I replaced the water panel and the distribution tray. I do see water in the distribution tray. I can hear the humidifier fan coming on and I can feel it sucking air when the furnace blower comes on. I can also see water coming out of the humidifier drain (dripping). My guess is that it is not drawing water at it's full capacity and somehow the water flow is restricted by the electronic module. I do not see any clogging of the incoming water line. Can someone help me with this? Is there a way I can see how fast it is drawing water when it comes on?
Thanks for your Question,
Sounds to me like you have a calcium build up in the Solenoid, which is restricting flow to the unit for proper operation, you might even have a bit of restriction in the copper line feeding the Solenoid, replacement of the solenoid would probably take care of your problem, one quick tip, in the spring and summer months, its a good idea to shut the water off to the unit, this should make the Solenoid last a little longer, hope this was helpful to ya, please let me know, thanks again,

Have you measured the quantity of water coming out of the drain tube? It should meet the specification of 1 quart in 2 and half minutes. I had the same problem and noticed the water output from the drain was only 3 ounces in that time. I got the contractor to replace the solenoid on warranty and it now gives me the specified drain water. This is of course only one of the possible reasons. Also time how long your furnace runs in an hour at a particular temperature. The specification for the Model 700 is 35% at 70% activity. Mine runs at 50% with external temperature of 30 F. For the most part I get 33% but when the humidity is high outside (low difference between temperature and Dew Point) it gives me 36%.
