Question about Apple 17 in Powerbook with SuperDrive 1.67 GHz (APPM9689LLA) PC Notebook

Open Question

Powerbk g4 1.67 lo-res. Harsh sound on startup.

Should I worry that my second-hand p/b G4 kind of coughs in a crackly way when it starts up? My previous machines have never made a sound like this, which is a bit like a badly-connected speaker.

Many thanks.

Crackling noise (like speakers) coming from the lid of my Macbook Pro during the start-up!
When I alter the angle of the screen of the laptop the noise disappears.
But next time round when I start the computer the noise appears.
This crackle disappears always once the computer enters the 'log-in' process.

Startup chime on my mac powerbook g4 stopped working. please help !

The parameter ram reset will reset that and other basics back to factory without losing any data. To do this, take a moment and find the command, option, p and r keys and figure out how you are going to hold them ALL down at together. The mac should be off, if not, shut it down (not restart-shutdown). Now, touch the power button and immediately hold down the cmd-option-p-r keys. Hold them for the screen to cycle black to gray THREE times (each taking about 15 seconds), then let go and let the mac complete the boot cycle. On the second cycle, you should have already heard the "chime" appear. That's it! Good Luck.

My iMac g4 1ghz wont boot

First hold down the right hand shift key down when you start, this does some housekeeping, The next step is if you have an install disk or tiger disk then start up from it by holding the "C" key down when starting and inserting the dvd, if this loads then go through the install menu, dont worry you do not need to actualy install just select language and then you get to a screen where you can select utilities from the menu bar, then select disk utility and repair permissions, after that do a repair disk then quit disk utility and change the startup disk back to the hard drive and restart, if for some reason you cannot repair the disk, this refers to the catalogs it uses to keep track , not the data itaelf, in that case you need a 3rd party utility like Disk warrior.

I have a 2001 shadow and no manuel I'am not sure witch way to turn the valve ,,,on,off,or res.

I am surprised it has a valve. most bike after 1995 don't. But Honda's are all the same depending on whether or not your is up or down the center position is off. so either pointing up or down. (center if you will) then to the right of center or clockwise should be on and the other is Res. when in doubt between on and res just pick one and go for a drive with a jerry can of gas and a low tank.Go till it coughs and then switch to the other. it will either continue to cough or run fine after about ten seconds. hope this helps

Startup switch on PB G4 17 not getting apple sound, takes numerous times to boot up. Using Tiger OS, upgraded to latest. Works fine, otherwise.

If a Mac is shut down while the volume is set to zero, the standard Apple startup chime will not sound, so it is impossible to say whether or not this symptom indicates a problem.
For a startup issue such as this, I would recommend zapping the PRAM and resetting Open Firmware.
To zap the PRAM, start with a powered-down machine, press the power button, then immediately hold down the four keys: command, option, P, R. After ten seconds or so, you should hear the optical drive reset, and then the startup chime (because the volume is reset to full by this procedure). Ten more seconds, another reset, another chime. After the second time you hear the chime, release the keys.
Shut the machine down again (if it doesn't start up successfully, hold the power button until the power goes off). Press the power button, then immediately hold down the four keys command, option, O, F. You will see some tech-speak on the screen, then it will wait for input. Enter the following three lines, pressing the "return" key at the end of each:
reset-nvram set-defaults reset-all
After the last line, your Mac will reboot itself. It should now boot much more reliably. If it doesn't, chances increase that you have a hardware problem. You may want to run the Apple Hardware Test from the DVDs that came with the PowerBook to check your memory and logic board. Failing this, you are in for a trip to the shop.

Mac not loading

Try resetting your pram:
  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
  3. Turn on the computer.
  4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
  5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
  6. Release the keys.

Smoke out of tailpipe on startup

ask a question. White, blue, black? its most likely steam on this new of a car. nothing to worry about. if blue, its burning oil, blue on start up is leaky valve seals, black on startup is leaky injectors, real white smoke (tons will come out) not steam, is blown head gasket or cracked head/block
