Question about IBM ThinkPad T23 Notebook

2 Answers

Last night i pressed something on my laptop and it froze. I couldnt even press CTRL ALT Delete. So i held the power button down to turn it off, then when i tried to turn it back on again, the light came on to indicate it was on, but the screen stayed black. I have tried running the battery out then recharging, this didnt work. Please could you suggest anything else? Bearing in mind that all i know about computers is how to get in facebook! =)

I dont know what i pressed, i put my hand over the bottom on the key pad near the space bar. So it could have been a number of keys around that area. The freen just froze on excel which is the program i was using. the only way to turn it off was to hold down the power key.

The CD drive does not eject. The screen is off/balck, there is nothing on it at all. The power light is on and thats the only light, the charge light comes on if its on charge.

The fan noise that usually comes on when you start a computer/laptop up is not happening. I have plugged a different monitor into it and this also doesnot work.

If you say the screen is black , if you look real hard can you see a faint image on the screen at all ....somtimes when a part for the screen fails you can see a faint image ...or try hooking it to an external monitor...there should be a connector on the side or back to hook to, and see if it gives you picture ...then you know if the laptop is working fine and it is just the lcd screen

Great description of your problem, can you elaborate? what was pressed to freeze the program?
Have you the bootable disc for your operating system i.e. Windows? if Vista? power up the Lap Top pop the system cd in the drive then shut down.
Cold boot and you should be ask if you want to boot from cd? press any key (Do this) you should then see Windows loading files then you will be asked Location? U.k. England London etc., select your area.
Key board layout next, i.e. English or U.S. layout? find the area you require by drop down list. Remember choosing U.S. if in U.K. will change Layout Of £ & $ after selection the next page will ask for either full install? Upgrade? or repair? click on repair and hopefully you are Fixya'd & back to normal.
Please remeber me if you are sorted by leaving your response.
Good Luck!

    Hi again Chloe,
Please I need more information, what was it you pressed to freeze the screen.
Holding down the power button isn't a naughty thing to do it just upsets the closure so if using Windows slows boot up and gives you the opportunity to start in safe mode just in case a virus or serious problem caused the shut down.
Are you seeing power lights on the front of the Laptop when power connected? when you hold power button down does any thing happen? with power button down have you tried to press cd tray button to open it?(The little block/oblong button on the edge/face where you put disc in) is the power button stuck in?
I'll wait for your reponse to my comment before final evaluation,
    Cheer's Chloe!

My icons have disapeaerd since i deleted form ctrl alt delete.

if you press ctrl alt delete, sometimes the computer will reset itself. You might need to wait for a few minutes until the computer does its thing.

if the computer is not moving or you are getting impatient(I am usually impatient). I would usually press and hold the power button of the computer so it shuts down for me. Then I would press the power again so the computer will turn back on.

PLEASE BE WARNED - if you were doing something before this, you will lose your work, and there is a slight chance that the computer might not start back. If it does not start back usually it is a virus or a hardware problem.
