SOURCE: Inspiron 1150 Slow startup, slow printing, unable to run 2 programs at once

What Operating System do you run? If it is Windows XP SP2 (Home Edition or professional), here are some things you can do to speed up your system. 1st you should remove all programs that are not required from the start menu. Start > Run > Msconfig > startup tab. Unselect all that are not necessary. Also Right click on my computer > properties > Advanced > Performance settings > Adjust for best performance. This should speed things up a little. I would recommend atleast 512 MB of memory to run Windows XP and its applications decently. You should consider an upgrade.

SOURCE: Slow starting Dell Inspiron 2650

The first thing I would look at is hard drive free space. Almost universally, critically slow systems have a hard drive with no free space. What most people don't seem to understand is that Windows requires a minimum of 10% of the hard drive to be free space to allow the operating system room for swap files and other temporary files needed to run the OS efficiently. This can be made worst by the fact that Windows only reports the size of a file on the hard drive, not the amount of space actually allotted to the file (This has to do with cluster size and the fact that only one file is written to any part of a cluster and in this case it is small files that waste a lot of space)

Things you can do.

1. Run disk cleanup, and get rid all temporary files.
2. If you use an email client like Outlook/Outlook express, delete unwanted emails, then empty the deleted items folder.
3. Open Internet Explorer, Tools, Internet Options, delete all cookies and temporaty internet files.
4. Go to add/remove programs in control panel, uninstall any programs or applications you do not use.
5. If you have a large amount of pictures or music files on the system, burn them to CDs or DVDs and free up that space.
6. Go to System Properties, Advanced Tab, performance section, settings button, select Adjust for Best Performance, Click Apply, Click Advanced TAB, Virtual Memory, Change Button, Select System Managed Size, Click Apply close then reboot.
7. Go to MY Computer, right click C:, Click Properties, Tools Tab, Defragment the Hard Drive
8. Adjust power management to Maximum perofrmance.

Here is the download link

But if you still want to use Internet explorer than tweak the Internet explorer using my earlier link, below is the link

Always use Download Manager to download anything from net except from sites like rapidshare, megaupload etc. They don't support Download Manager as they are file hosting server.

I recommend you use "Orbit Download Manager" as it is completely free and it support video download from sites like youtube.com etc

Here is the download link from whwre you can downalod Orbit Downloader

http://download.cnet.com/Orbit-Downloader/3000-2071_4-10600926.html

That's it.

Make Sure your system is free from virus, trojans or spyware or adware, they slow down the system as well as consumed Internet bandwidth too.Scan your PC with a Good Antivirus but I recommend you to use any Internet security suite.

Make sure you have a recognized anti virus program running like Microsoft Essentials or Norton Antivirus. Then run Advanced System Care from iobit.com. That should sort your malware issues out.

Slow computer shutdown

Tip #1: Cut down of the programs and processes running in the background.--When you start your computer many unnecessary processes are loaded. You can eliminate this by managing your msconfig.

Here is how:
1. Open your Start menu.
2. Click Run
3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"
4. In the system configuration utility, click either service or startup tab.
5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer want to run in the background.
6. Click OK

Tip #2: Defrag your Computer--The faster your computer can find files the quicker it can shutdown. A very slow computer shutdown can be the result of your hard drive trying to search for disorganized and fragmented files that it needs for shutdown . Organize your hard drive by performing a defragmentation.
Here is how:
1. Open the Start Menu
2. Click on My Computer
3. Right Click your C: drive or your hard drive image.
4. Scroll down to the Properties and Click
5. In the Properties Menus, Open the Tools menu.
6. Choose Defragment Now.
7. In the Disk Deframenter menu. Click on Defragment

Tip #3: Clean your Registry- Usually slow computer shutdown often occurs due to a corrupted registry. You should perform a registry clean, use RegInOut to fix this issue instantly.

Hi.
the first thing i would check is to make sure there is no dirt or dust stopping the fan from running because if the fan is not running it will heat up and shut down or if the fan is running slow it will shut down.
and for running slow i would do a good clean up get rid off stuff thats not needed anymore.like music, pictures, the more your harddrive has on it the longer it will take to load and run.

Hi

Reinstalling the operating system will surely make your computer faster. Since you do not have Windows 7 disk and you do not have hardware driver for your laptop. I suggest you send it to reformat to a technichian for a small fee and he will download the correct hardware driver for your netbook and then reinstall the fresh operating system. will sure will run your computer faster. I have an lg HXD5 external hard drive 320 GB. My laptop has windows vista home. When I plug in my external drive 1) it takes almost 5 minutes to load 2) it will not let me copy files Could you help...

I don't know about the slow HDD problem but maybe about the COPY problem......
try this....
In your BIOS menu, check if there is any setting for USB devices...
If there is, then enable it....sometimes these settings are set to disabled and so the USB device becomes locked up(meaning you cannot copy or paste anything out of it or inside it)....
HOPE IT HELPS....

Hello there...

Keep in mind this
1) OS ?
2) How you format your HD. FAT32? or NTFS? how many times?
perhaps you got a bad sector on your HD.
3) verify your CMOS, if you enable 32 enhance mode.
4) Check if you do a quick format? or regular format (takes long)
example: on C: Format C:
5) Antivirus you got? Norton 360? Avg? this could sometimes slow down a bit the systems, and resourses.
6) Memory problems? check
7) Your pagefile? on advance setting in SYSTEM, control panel. put in ( let windows decide...)
thats it
happy nice time

My Panasonic DMC-TZ3 lost the ability to open the automatic lens cover and therefore no pictures can be taken. I took one picture and a few minutes later I wanted to take another and realized the problem....

Sometimes if you strike the camera, while powered, and against the palm of your other hand, it will open, and may operate correctly for sometime before maybe having to do it again.

This is a very common design problem with the TZ3. I would be sure to get it to a panasonic repair shop before warranty runs out. If it has run out, I would preasure panasonic to fix THEIR design problem for free. Especially if it began to occur during your warranty.
