Question about Dell OptiPlex GX270 PC Desktop
When put power lead in back fans start then stop
I suggest that you reset your memory stick inside your computer. If you have two memory/RAM sticks inside, then try using one. Try starting your computer. If no go, try unplugging the DVD drive - then start the computer. And do the same thing with the other components.
Here's the situation: Your computer's hardware part has a problem with it. You have to isolate that part that's causing it. If this seems hard for you, then I suggest that you get a technician for that.

If under warranty contact Dell? I had this same problem, a new motherboard and fan assembly fixed this problem. Bad capacitors on the motherbard.

I agree, the Optiplex GX270 is infamous for MoBos going bad. The capacitors have a manufacturing flaw, and up until February of 2008, Dell was replacing those boards for customers for free if it was found that the capacitors were the culprit. I just found a board yesterday with this problem. A sign that the capacitors are bad is either a buldge or they will be leaking an orange-rusted looking substance (primarily capacitors near the CPU). Symptoms of this problem include the PC rebooting itself randomly, and/or getting a BIOS error saying there was a thermal event.

Sounds like you only have power going to your motherboard.
The power supply might be bad on it, that or maybe the power cord is going bad and is only letting a small amount go through. I don't see why there should be a problem if you have even a little bit of power going though.
