Question about D-Link DIR-615 Wireless Router

1 Answer

I use a D-Link router as supplied by Virgin Media and have never experienced any problems except that the signal is so weak that I cannot even use a laptop in the next room. I bought a Netgear booster to extend the range, but this requires that I press the WPS button on the router . This router does not have this button so does this mean that I will not be able to use the booster at all, or is there another D-Link router I could use? .

You can ask virgin media to strengthen the range the wifi can reach
I think the cost$ of router/wifi is dependent on its speed and range

Try to play around with the wireless channel of your router and check which one is best for your wireless network.

SOURCE: Signal strength bad between PS3 & D-LINK DIR-655 Wireless Router

Things to try:

1. Swapping the router from mixed mode to G only.

2. Raise up the wireless router higher in the room.

3. Move the router closer to the ps3 or the ps3 closer to it.

4. Run ethernet cable to the ps3 from the router. (clunky but 1ms ping times to the router does make seem worth it.)

5. Put the ole warhorse of a linksys back in and hope for store credit on the dlink. As it seems to have been working for you.

To answer your question:

Currently most things have built in G class wireless antennas. As such they prefer G and the N router eats into the G's spectrum. Not bad but some bleeding of channels is just going to happen and as such N class things will love the N router but the G class have to suffer a bit.

SOURCE: d link dir 615. Weak signal, router is put on main

Try turning the router 90 degrees, and measure the strength.
Turn it another 90 degrees, and measure again.

Move to a house with wood cross-beams, instead of metal cross-beams inside the first-floor ceiling.

Rotate the upstairs computer 90 degrees, and measure again.

Buy a "Wireless N" router, for greater signal strength.

The purple lit up thing badged Virgin media, it's a button as well as the indicator by colour.

I used to have the same problem and installed a wireless access point that professionals use in schools and factories. You couple to the saucer shaped thing with cable and it does Wi-Fi cable free for miles. I can follow the signal more than 20 houses away.

The router is not connected to the internet via Virgin media.

Your computer is connected only to the router wirelessly, that is why it says contact your internet supplier on how to connect the router successfully!

Want to get more speed out o my fiberoptic broadand

Well the best router for your connection type would be WNR2000. Even Virgin media recommend this router for their 20 and 50 Meg connection. I am pretty confident that this router will meet your requirement with this ISP connection.

Hope this helps.
