1985 20 hp is stif hard to move left or right

Buy a clymer or haynes book for total repair. Bike is 30yr. Parts hav gut stif from no lube and age. Or clutch just needs ajustn at handle lever or at engine connect

Have a look at the beginning of the tread, and it will become obvious that it is left or right hand.

It sounds like the nylon nut which holds the handle in place is too tight. Try loosening that nylon nut just a little to see if the handle moves easier. Sometimes if they are over-tightened, the handle will be stiff and hard to operate.

The key to getting an Oreck to move or push is to use as low and angle of the handle as possible. The more upright the handle, the harder the machine is to push (move). The lower the angle or the closer the handle is to the carpet, the easier it is to move (push). Use a straight stiff arm that is pointed down and move your arm at the shoulder with a near locked elbow.

If the handle is hard to turn it is most commonly caused by water deposits in the handle or in the cartridge below. I would try removing the handle to ensure it turns freely when not installed on the faucet. If not you can clean it with CLR to remove the water deposits that are making it difficult to turn. If the handle turns freely when not installed you will need to remove the cartridge and inspect it to ensure it is not broken or damaged in any way. There could be debris in the cartrige that has either made it hard to turn or broken the ceramic disks. Our handles are easily removed by turning the bell shaped ecutcheon below the lever or cross handle. There are not set screws that hold them on. could be your belt needs to be changed or your pump is going out, is it stif to turn or just making a noise?

The Azimuth clutch is slipping-- have you tightened the knob in the center of the base-- push the handle to the left. There is a tiny set screw on the side of the knob -- you can loosen it and remove the knob and position it further to the RIGHT on the bolt.

A couple of thing's to check the fill tube in the tank is it connected from the fill valve to over flow. This fill's th ebowl up with the required amount of water.
Next is the water filling to the line on the fill tube with in 5/8 " from top of tube. Adjust the float to get it with in the fill amount required.

The chain on the flapper need's some slack, you just have to move it a little till it get's adjusted right. Water level low in the tank will affect the flapper also.

the power steering pump has a seperate adjuster bolt ont the bottom left of the pump if you loosen this off then loosen the pulley bolt it iwill move in to allow for the belt then tighten the adjuster bolt till the tension on the belt only allows for a 1/2 inch movement up or down then tighten pulley bolt
not the pump may be stiff to move at first

sure , if you look underthe handle is there perahps a small screwhole in which you can tighten handle??this may be prior year in which case if there are no screw holes present you need to grab hold of handle and with a "brisk" pull to the right it will come off hiddenclips, the clips can be t ightened and resecure by snapping back the oppisite way the handle pullled off
