Same problem "movie recording disabled"

How do i fix this I used my brand new Sony Handcam DVD recorder twice over xmas, then the day of videoing my daughters baptism, I switched on the camera to get the message "movie recorder disabled". The disc was never touched and worker properly prior to the baptism. Does anyone know what can cause this and can I recover the film somehow??? I really don't want to lose this video. I never got to finalise the disc either. I don't have a problem when I insert a different disc. Please can someone help.

    VIDEO RECORDER DISABLED. HELP!!!

  • boznbon Mar 27, 2009

I had recorded several videos and they were on the disc. We had reviewed them several times. The disc was almost full and we recorded the baby's first haircut. I only recorded bits and pieces and during the recording, I know the other videos were still there. After coming home, we tried to show the video to his grandmother and the disc was blank. I know it's nothing we did and the disc was not finalized. There are/were some other very important videos on this disc and now I get the message "movie recording disabled". PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE tell me there's a way to recover these videos.

Scott,
Since this is a new camera, nothing was changed as far as the disc, it should work, has it been switched to "still" for photos, that's the message that comes up when you change it. You shouldn't have to finalize the disc before you shut off the camera, try starting it with another disc then shut it off replace it with your baptism disc and try to preview the video, if it shows you should be able to aad to it or then finalize it.

    Scott,

If you have Windows moviemaker or some other video editing software, you may just try the disc in your computer to see if it can import the files to the software, then burn it to a new DVD to playbck on your "home" DVD.

Movie recording disabled

for disc (DVD) camcorder: this problem is due to high shock to camcorder. the recorder lens is moved from it's original place and can't record or access thereafter. you also can not finalize the disc (DVD). you have to replace the disc with new one.

you also lost your recording till the problem happened.

Sony Handycam says movie recording disabled. How did this happen and how do I undo it?

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot when Recording disabled is displayed by the camcorder.
  1. Verify the disc being used has not been finalized. It is not possible to record additional video on a finalized disc.
  2. Attempt to record on a different disc.

DCR-DVD108 Problem

It's the disc not the camera......I purchased a 3 pack of Sony DVD-R discs. I put the first disc in and it recorded once. The next time I tried to record I got the message "movie recording disabled". After calling Sony, searching online, resetting the camera and reading through the manual I replaced the disc with another from the 3 pack and it is recording just fine. I read that recording straight to DVD has many problems, and I believe this is one of them. SONY SUCKS!!!!!
