Hello If it does not play the cleaner disc, just inspect whether the disc inserted in spins inside it. You can check this by open the upper cover of the player, and inserting a disc into it. If inserted disc spins inside, and the player won't read it, the fault is with its laser pickup unit, and it should be replaced with same type and number. If the disc dos not spins, the fault is with the sled motor [the motor that spins the inserted disc], has damaged, and should be replaced. OK.
In some cases this is due to the main spindle getting jammed or there are mechanical errors which as mentioned needs a reset.
Also in some cases when the CD does not play it is possible that the optical head is a suspect. Sometimes it might pick up ordinary audio CD but will not play other formats. This indicates that the optical head is weak and so there is no detection or scanning of the CD . If the optical is working the tracks will be read immediately but with no scanning the laser head can be defective. Sometimes certain cleaner disks will not be tracked to run for cleaning as it will not be read and so will reject. Hence it is ideal to manually clean the laser head eye using a cleaning swap /cotton bud with gentle pressure on the lens eye. If there is no result then watch if the CD spins or tries to spin. If so the board seems to work unless a test is taken on the main board but the possibility of a defective optical head can be the suspected fault. If any of the above seems otherwise we must recheck with possibilities of a malfunction of the main processor board

i had the same problem after i moved and everything ran but when i put in a cd the disc would spin for awhile then change to the next disc and just kept spinning and moving from one disc to the other none stop. so i opened mine up turns out during the move there is a small black plastic piece that sits on top of the laser in the middle it shifted during the move making it block the view of the disc. you will have to carefully remove the plastic piece from the top of the laser with out touching the laser lens and that fixed mine good as new. my problem is i need the remote code movers lost my remote and can't find the code to use the replacement i bought. Hope it helps if this is the same problem i had should work. i tried to move the black piece back into place but it just did not go back right to just removed it all together. they did not use anything to really hold it into place to avoid slipping.
What's cooking!? I too occasionally experience a similar problem with the RCA RS2042. When switching to the CD source, I receive sound from one speaker, while the other is faint. I have found that if you open the back and fotz around with the speaker connections (the system, not the speakers themselves), it will correct the problem. Have patience! Take care. -D
I know that Panasonic provides chips, optics (laser),etc. to Emerson. I am familiar with the problem you've experienced because I've had a Panasonic CD Player. If the disc doesn't spin (as you said), the problem must be that your shelf system probably has an optical problem (laser problem/pickup problem) and will need to be serviced.
