Epson sx 205, can't change the cartridge

I am trying to put a new black ink cartridge in my printer, but the thing that holds the cartridges seems firmly ensconced in the right hand side of the printer and won't move across ... I've tried pretty much every button ... can you help?

    i cannot do it

I also had a problem changing the ink cartridges. I followed the instructions in the Epson Leaflet in pressing the On and Stop Button. The cartridge holder kept shooting to the left to the right, to the left and returning back to its original locked position on the right. I could not get to the holder to change the cartridges. I therefore went on the net and located a Helper's advice and followed this and managed to eventually change the cartridges. Every time I do this it takes my valuable time, which I do not have. If I cannot do this easier, I will have to obtain another printer.

What an absolute nightmare I too am having in trying to change any of the cartridges! It takes ages. I still haven't managed to change them at present, after wasting at least 20 minutes! I am experiencing the same problem. The cartridge holder whizzes to the left and to the right and to the left and then firmly stays on the right hand side and is immovable! Also I do not find the cartridge lasts for very long and am always having to try and change the cartridges. Epson is very good at showing pop-ups of low ink etc, but this is a little tiresome. It is a shame as the Epson SX 205 is a lovely looking model, but is not easy to use.

With the power on and the lid up, click on the red stop (left panel). You will notice the cartridges move to the left and then they come back and stop halfway. Afterwards you should be able to slide the cartridges manually with your hand to the larger area on the right where you could do the cartridge change. Once you've moved it to that area just the lift the cover where the arrow is.

You can get the cartridge to the desired position to replace the cartrige via your computer. Worked for me. I have posted the link to EPSON's solution.

Basically , go to Printer properties - maintenance tab and select replace cartidge utility.

Press the button for six seconds, and release once the print carriage starts moving. For some reason Epson missed that part out of the instructions!

With the scanner cover lifted, press and hold the arrow button for approx. six seconds. Once the print carriage begins to move, you can release the button. The print carriage will then indicate which cartridges require replacing. Press the arrow button each time the carriage moves to the low ink indicator, and eventually it should park in open area on the right. Now replace the ink cartridges previously indicated, Once replaced, press the arrow button once more and allow the printer a few moments to charge the print head.

Hope this helps!

I had the same problem. i checked the web for a solution but found none. so what i had to do was press the red stop button (under the power button) until the ink went over to the left, then when it came back over to the right and passed by the opening where you can actually get your hand in to change the ink, i quickly pressed down on the long grey release button and pulled it up, stopping the ink from going over to the extreme right where its impossible to get at. i quickly turned off the power then to stop it in its tracks to prevent damage. i changed the ink, clicked back down the grey button and pressed back on the power. probably is bad for the printer but it worked for me. hoped this helps.

What is happening is the cartridge goes over to the arrow tab on the left to show you which cartridge is empty. (There may be more than one that needs changing). Then it should go over to the right to allow you to change it.
NB It is probably best to use Epson cartridges as I had to get my printer 'fixed' due to waste ink cartridge full - which doesn't appear to be user accessible.

How to change cartridges epson stylus sx 400

From older Epsons: If the ink cartridges are empty (red light on), hold the ink switch 3 seconds to move the print head to the left. If they are not empty, hold paper switch until print head moves left. Once you remove a cartridge you can't reuse it, even if there's ink in it according to Epson.

EPSON Stylus CX7400 won't accept ink cartridge

Mine acts up this same way (more often than not). I've found that as I install new cartridges, it helps to "tilt" it towards the chip end so that it "rubs" as it's going in. You'd normally hold both sides when replacing a cartridge but I don't even touch the outer end as I do it & it seems to help the printer "see" the replacement when installed.

Why won't my CX9400F recognize Epson ink cartridges

The Epson CX9400F printer seems to require replacement of all the color ink cartridges, even if only the Black is empty.

I print almost exclusively in Black, but with my first change of Black, I was forced to change all the color. At the time I thought Epson did not provide completely filled color ink cartridges.

Just yesterday, I replaced Black and the printer complained it did not recognize the rest of color cartridges. So I replaced all the other color ink cartridges and now it works fine.

You might want to check out www.clickinks.com for cheaper, mail order alternatives which are Epson ink compatible, if you are not in a hurry.

Usually to change printer cartridges you hold the ink button down for 3-5 seconds. Then it moves to the proper changing area. Hope this helps.

C60 says full cartridge is dry

You could try taking out the new ink and putting in the old. Then uninstall the program, delete all reference to Epson in Regedit, then reinstall the program.
Change the cartridge when prompted.
Of course, having messed about with the jet, it may not work now !

Ink Cartridge

Some of Epson's cartridges went bad that way. It may be a bad cartridge. Get a new one, pull that one out and see what happens. If it works, call Epson for a refund. They had a class action suit for that type of thing, they lost and paid off. I would think they will help you right away.
