Toshiba Satellite A105 left speaker high buzzing noise

It starts when I play music or Skype, and is still there when I put on headphones. It seems to go away at times for a day or so when I shut down and remove the battery pack, possibly.
The right speaker is fine and keeps on working, even when the left one acts up!
This is a 2 year old unit bought in the States.
Thanks, Francois

Thanks. I did check this, and even in a middle of a park or by the pool, away from any power source or appliances, it will do it at times!!

It still does it without the battery, at times only...

Hi,

You can replace the speakers without too much expense:

If you've installed the latest soundcard driver, I think this is your only solution, mate :(

Hope this helps

I think it is probably current feedback on the speaker's wire..

Welcome to Fixya! Driver Updates Could Help. Have you tried Magnetically Shielded Headphones? If not you should be able to locate a Loose Wire Connection to this Speaker inside the Unit. Just Solder it back on and you should be Good.

Check if any source of electromagnetic interference is nearby.
transformers, fluorescent lamps, monitors can generate fields easily captured by audio device,
make this test: use in same area a radio am/fm with same earphone move around and check if sound if affected by same noise.
if you find the source then you can try to remove or to shield it

it sounds like outside interference... and believe it or not the worst offender is a computer... do you operate it near a desktop computer.... the left speaker wires may not be as well shielded as the right.... or the item causing interference is on the left of the laptop.

is this issue still there when you run the computer without the battery... try that for abit... there may be a bad capacitor in the battery circuit.

are you adjusting sound through the windows controller or the application you're playing music through? there are a few things that could affect that, there's also the actual sound setup where you can change your setup i.e. surround sound, single speaker, headphones etc

Why are there random buzzing sounds coming from the speaker?

An easy step that you can take is to try to reinstall the drivers. Something may be conflicting with them which causes this effect. The other option is that the hardware may be failing.
Here is the driver page for your Toshiba laptop. Hopefully it is as simple as the drivers just needing an update!

I can't hear sound from my laptop even with the builtin speakers. It's a Toshiba Satellite A105-S4064.

On the front of the laptop there is a circular knob, play a music cd and then turn the knob from left to right and see if the sound comes back, if that doesn't work then make sure where the speaker is in the bottom right hand side of the screen click on it and make sure the volume is turned up.

If it still doesn't work then reload the sound drivers. At this point if the sound still won't work then that means that either the speakers or the motherboard is bad and you won't know for sure unless you replace the speakers first.

Before going to any shops, here is a suggestion that can't hurt anything.
Go to the Control Panel and click on Sounds and Audio Devices. On the Volume tab at the bottom, you will see "Speaker Settings". Click on the Advanced button. Change that setting to "Stereo headphones". You should hear the sound only through the headphones then.
