SOURCE: my microwave doesnt work
The radiation module built into the microwave has burnt out. The way a microwave works is that the radiation module produces radio waves that make the molecules in your food speed up, and the kinetic energy in the food makes it warm. The sound you hear is a fan cooling off the module and the light is just so you can check the food. Because of the nature of the module, it cannot be replaced and the entire machince needs to be replaced.

You have burned out the magnatron (heating element) which is common on GE microwaves. most service companies will charge about 200-250 to replace it

Hi, this is common in most microwaves. this abnormal noise is coming from a faulty Magnetron. this device is responsible for the heating process and, it is damaged and not heating at all at this point.Simply replace the Magnetron and, this unit will start to heat once more.

Micro wave as the name suggests produces heat when the micro waves aimed at an object causes the water molecules inside the object to vibrate hence producing heat. The gadget responsible is the magnetron. If your magnetron is not receiving ht voltage or receiving but faulty, then your micro wave wont work please take precaution when opening micro wave due to high voltage caps that remain charged sometimes even when it is off.check the high voltage fuse/ diode and capacitor if they are fine and the step up trans former o.k then the only option is to replace the magnetron
