Stuck on bios screen

does your keyboard work on the computer you might try another keyboard before trying anything else

try blowing out all of the dust from your keyboard using a fine air blower from an air compressor making VERY sure there is no MOISTURE in the lines.
dust causes static which causes lots of problems with a computer and its parts
make sure the usb lead has a secure dust free connection if applicable
disconnect the keyboard restart your computer then reconnect it the found new hardware wizard should activate
if this does not fix the problem

restart you computer tap the f8 key repeatedly to enter safe mode where the only things working will be your keyboard and mouse allowing you an attempt to repair your computer

If done properly the user should get to a screen similar to the below screen.

Select the option for Safe mode command prompt only

Windows Advanced Options Menu
Please select an option:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Enable Boot Logging
Enable VGA mode
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)
Debugging Mode

Start Windows Normally
Return to OS Choices Menu

Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice.
select safe mode
Click start control panel keyboard hardware make sure you have the right keyboard selected
or you might have uninstall the keyboard then restart your computer then reinstall it and its drivers
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to keyboard you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click update driver
hope it helps

Start you're computer on safe mode an run you're antivirus

Using the F8 Method:

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. When the computer starts you will see your computer's hardware being listed. When you see this information start to gently tap the F8 key on your keyboard repeatedly until you are presented with the Windows 7 Advanced Boot Options screen as shown in the image below.

  3. Using the arrow keys, select the Safe Mode option you want.
  4. Then press the enter key on your keyboard to boot into Windows 7 Safe Mode.
  5. When Windows starts you will be at a typical logon screen. Logon to your computer and Windows 7 will enter Safe mode.
  6. Do whatever tasks you require, and when you are done, reboot to go back into normal mode.

I turn on my computer the first page comes up asks for a password i log in it says your personal settings are booting up and then nothing it freezes

start in SAFE mode first by repeatedly pressing F8 during the boot up.

Select just SAFE MODE and not any of the other options.

If it boots up OK then the chances are that a new driver or software installation is the cause and from safe mode you may want to UN-INSTALLor the offending driver and then ty to reboot.
New hardware can also cause similar issues and a quick check is to remove the hardware and try to boot. Iff the boot works then swap the hardware into another slot and if you have to move an existing card out of a slot to do that but boot up with just the moved card first to enable the drivers to catch up then shut down and fit the new card and try again.

If the problem persists you could if you are using windows 7 do a REPAIR install that will take care of many of these issues.

similar sorts of REPAIR installation are also possibe from XP and VISTA but can be a little more complex to do.

For software related to this printer model, try this link:
You will need to select your operating system, and then you will be directed to the page where you can download the driver for the printer and any additional software you may need. For help installing the software, here is a link to the manual:
I personally would download and save the driver to the computer, and then go through the new printer wizard setup and tell it where you saved the driver. The printer should then be able to install on your computer. For extra features, you will need to install the software for that model, which can be found on the driver download page.

After installing the software then connecting the scanner my computer boots to desktop then shuts off repeatedly.

The drivers you installed for the scanner are causing your problem, you need to remove them.Make sure the scanner is disconnected from the computer for this.
Start your machine and right after the POST screen, before the Windows startup screen, tap the F8 key repeatedly until your start options screen comes up.
Try booting with the "Last known good configuration" option first. If Windows starts up and functions normally then it worked and has taken you back to right before you installed the software. If not,we'll restart and go through the F8 routine again.
This time, use the "Boot in Safe Mode" option. If you're not familiar with safe mode everything will look really big, that's normal.Go to Start-Programs-All Programs-Accessories-System Tools-System Restore.Start sys. restore and follow along until it asks you which restore point you want to use.Look for a point before you installed the scanner and pick that.
It takes a while to restore, and it will restart your computer at some point. And hopefully after that everything will be normal again.
Post back and let me know what happens with what you have so far.If none of that works there are other options, but those are the ones to start with.I'll be here.
If the steps above work, would youplease rate my post?

The notebook stops unexpectidely and sometimes I got a blue page about portcls.sys

The problem is probably with the sound card drivers on your laptop, try updating the drivers, if you can't use the computer try starting up in safe mode by pressing F8 Repeatedly during start up before the windows logo comes up, select safe mode with networking and press enter.

In safe mode, right click on my computer or computer, which you will find from either your desktop or from start menu, select manage.

on the manage window, the left side, click on device manager, find your sound card, under the sound devices, right click, properties, go to the driver page, click on driver details, if you see the portcls.sys listed on the driver files then we have found the problem device, try to update its drivers with the update driver feature and look for drivers online. if it doesn't find anything you will have to tell me what the brand and model is and I'll see if I can get you newer drivers.

The laptop wont start, just getting blue screen

If you are getting a Blue screen repeatedly and you can't start up towindows in any custom setting ( from f8 start up menu ) one way tosolve the problem is to Use the restore disc or windows installation cdor dvd to installwindows into the computer or perform a repair installation if a windowsalready exists on the computer and the setup can find it.

how to perform a repair installation

this is for xp, but its similar on 2000 and on vista.

insert your Windows XP Setup CD, and restart your computer.

1.Whenthe Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.

ifnot then the computer is not set to start up from a cd, you can eitherenter the setup / bios to change that setting OR right when you powerup the computer look at the screen it will say what button to press inorder to enter boot menu or bios, it will very likely be button F12 or similar, it should say on the screen when you power on.

if it doesn't, then you need to go into the bios and change the boot order so that the computer starts from the CD first.

after that you should be able to start from the cd and install the OS (Operating system, eg.Windows)

here's some info on how to work the bios:

Repeat step 1 when you have changed the boot order.

2.Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen.

3.Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.

4.In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.

5.Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.

6.Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.

7.Oneswindows is working you will need the drivers for your computer, theyare at the makers website, for hp and compaq. for acer for all otherbrands go to google and write Brand drivers. Should get you to theright place. Dell is most likely and so on.

Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DQ6 installation problems

Hi speedfreak44, during the installation of windows one of the drivers did not install correctly & windows registry is messed up.
The blue screen is a typical response from windows. Even though you're windows installed SP2, there are another 89+ updates for SP2. (A reinstall with-out a format is not advised).
Suggest you enter you're bios & disable ACPI. This one I know for sure will show up in windows device manager as a PCI device with no name. Try again to boot windows. If it still fails to enter in standard mode than a complete re-install will be required including a format. Personally I do not use windows XP pro/home w/SP2 CD to perform the format, (After receiving a blue screen).
I have found it is 98% better to use the software tools, downloaded from the Mfg's web site for you're hard drive. Use the bootable software (On a floppy or CD), to format you're hard drive. Most Mfg's hard drive software will allow you to change the cluster size up. Windows standard uses a 4kb cluster size & you loose far more hard drive space. With a 16kb you loose only the file allocation or FAT, which is normal.
Than using the Win XP CD/SP2 install windows, clean.
(No need to format).
When finished installing windows, load the Gigabyte driver CD & install the chipset & other CD drivers. Turn on windows firewall & update windows SP2. (ASAP), (Save SP3 update for later).
It is in the updates of windows to iron out software & hardware driver updates. Do not install you're antivirus software until windows has finished updating its self & you install any hardware updates also through windows update. (Continue to leave the ACPI disabled in bios until updating is complete).
You can enable ACPI, antivirus software & printer software all.

You will find some needed software will install during windows update. Like; Quad Core processor update. With either home edition or pro it is advised to install .Net framework updates 1 at a time & only restart when prompted by windows. Other wise click the refresh button & continue windows updating. (You can save the .Net framework updates for last if you wish). You're video card may need .Net framework 2.0 or better for installation.
I am hell bent on installing windows once & correctly the first time. I understand you want to get this baby up & running but take the time & run the hard drive tools/utilities. (It's worth it)!

Good Luck speedfreak44!
If I can help you further, feel free to post.
Suggestions & comments welcomed.

Please let me know if this got you're system running without the blue screens?
One last item. It's also worth checking the dates on the Gigabyte CD to Gigabyte's web site before installing other drivers. Including the chipset drivers. You want to install the newest drivers the first time around. Here is the link to you're Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DQ6 motherboard main web site.
(Click on the link).
