No its not good, sooner or later your cpu will burn up. It may be working and you may not notice anything but the cpu is getting overheated.
I sugest you get that fan replaced AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Good luck to you

Is there a quieter fan for the sony pcg-k45?

If your fan is very loud, and works all the time, then probably you'll need to clean up your laptop from the inside. On average it only takes 3 months for any laptop to gather enough dirt so the CPU heatsing gets totally clogged and this causes the fan to work all the time, and in extreme cases your laptop even turns off so it protects the CPU from the excess heat.
Here's a very good overheating laptop cleanup tutorial with some best practices that any laptop owner should know.

If this was informative and helpful please vote with a Thumb Up. Thank you.

Hi my sony vaio the fan is always making a lud noise

This is very simple issue. Hope you might read my blogs on the same issue. Basically the CPU fan runs fast only when the processor sends signals to the bios saying "Hey bios iam getting heated, cool me up". The bios initiates a process called as SMM (system management mode) which will lower the data traffic through the processor and takes the control of system with an increased fan speed. This is just for the sake of keeping the processor at the ruled temperature so that it doesnt get fried. But this is a process, even though continuous, will not make the fan go running all time like nuts.

If that is happening to your sony vaio pc, i would suggest you to go ahead, download the latest bios flash, and upgrade the Bios. When the Bios has an issue it triggers the smm mode as if it got signal from processor and it keeps the fan running. So check for the status of BIOS by updating it with a flash program and this will be clear. Good Luck.

Buy a can of compressed air, a can of fine mechanisms oil, take the bottom cover off the laptop (only a Phillips screwdriver is needed) and clean and oil the fan.

My sony is over heating

This is almost certainly a hardware fault - the fan will need to be replaced. This is a job you can do yourself if you are comfortable disassembling the laptop. Otherwise I suggest to take it to a repair centre.

Sony vgn-nr120e stops working

Hi,

Uninstall unnecessary softwares from add/remove programs. Did you noticed that cpu fan is working? If not then clean the cpu exhaust system with blower and also check the cpu fan function in BIOS. When using laptop always use flat surface to place it, mattress or sofa create problem with cooling and exhaust system of the cpu fan.
Hope this will help you.

Sony Vaio VGN-SZ460N - freezes on System Recovery

I put my money on that you have a CPU over temperature problem, and/or intermittent RAM problem.

Be sure you are ESD safe when working on the electronics as follow !

I suggest, using a eye piece magnifier and a wooden tooth pick and carefully touch each pin of your RAM sockets and see if the soldering is bad, allowing the pin to move slightly. If that happens, well it needs re-soldering there, make sure you use leaded solder, not the ROHS crapp.

If that turns out to be ok, then check your processor. It might over heat.
You may want to observe if the CPU fans runs at all and if it runs at full speed most the time, even if you don't run any 'heavy' programs. This usually would indicate poor heat dissipation. Most Sony Laptops have a piece of thermal foam pad is used for heat transfer from the CPU chip into the heat sink. Over time this pad shrinks, effectively impeding the heat transfer causing the CPU to over heat and intermittent shutdowns ect. I suggest, find a new piece of thermal pad or replace that with a piece of copper sheet material and use Thermalloy transfer paste.

Sony Vaio PCG-K30 laptop does not work

By removing the heatsink and cleaning it, you may have wipe d the heat sink compund, or the heatsink is not well attached to the base and is not making full contact with the CPU.
Check for this two conditions, and correct them.
Everything should be fine.
