Unfortunatly I know it works because we took it out of one car and put it in another (mine) It was fully operable in the previous vehicle. Additionally, I called the help desk who had me ensure everytrhing was connected properly...and it is. Dont really know what to do next.

My Gamin Nuvi can't unlock maps

Use a Garmin 1450

The Garmin Nuvi 1450 can be used while driving or walking.

While driving, use the Nuvi 1450 to create a route to your destination and get step-by-step directions, to hear the names of upcoming streets, to tell you when to change lanes and to find out the speed limits on unfamiliar streets.

As a pedestrian, you can have the Nuvi 1450 create a route for you that uses a mixture of walking and public transportation, such as the subway or bus system, if you have purchased cityXplorer maps for that area.

Tap "Where to?" to set up a route. The "Where to?" icon is a large magnifying glass.

Tap "Addresses." The available categories are address, points of interest, go home, recently found, favorites and intersections.

Input the name of the state or county, if it is out of town.

Then tap "Spell city." Spell out the name of the city using the pop up keyboard.

Press "Done."

Enter the address number and press "Done."

Then enter the street name and press "Done."

The "Go" screen opens automatically.

Tap the green "Go" button. The Nuvi 1450 will now calculate a route to the address.

Follow the voice prompts and map highlight to your destination.

Navigate Using Coordinates

Tap "Where to?" and then tap "Coordinates."

Tap the coordinate you want to adjust/input a new coordinate.

Tap "Format" to choose the right coordinate format for the map you are using.

Enter the coordinates. Tap "Next."

Tap the green "Go" button to calculate a route.

Use the Map Page

Navigate to your destination by following the voice prompts, highlighted route on the map and directions located at the top of the map screen.
Tap the "turn" icon located in the upper left corner of the screen to see the next turn. It may have a turning or straight arrow and the number of miles until the turn. Tap the bar across the top with the next direction listed on it to see a list of all directions.

Tap the plus or minus signs on the right side of the screen to zoom in or out.

Press the spinning arrow in the lower left corner of the screen to return to the main menu.

Tap the "car" icon traveling along the highlighted route to enter the "Where Am I?" screen and get your exact location, coordinates and nearby emergency services.

Hope this helps

Entering waypoints manually

Notice that when you pull up the MARKed coordinates the yellow cursor is on the N/S letter rather than the number. Since a number is impossible there it won't let you enter one.

Use the rocker to move to the popup screens directional arrows to move to the digit you want to change. This will be easiest with the the RIGHT arrow at first; once you see the cursor it will make sense. Note I am talking about the popup's RIGHT square and not the rocker's RIGHT direction.

Walking figure has morphed into a three sided blob that seems to point in the direction of travel.

On the map screen, hit the "enter button" then hit "enter" again while highlighting the "orient Map ahead." This will change back to the walking figure. The triangle that you see, only shows when you orient the map northward. Try using both ways to see which you prefer.

It just stopped talking. No voice directions, on

Hit the menu buttom, go to settings, then go to volume and see if it is muted. Sounds like the mute or volume down button got inadvertantly hit and turned down or muted. If this does not work, turn the unit over and look under the fold up antenna for a reset button. Depress this button until the unit restarts and should reset the unit back to factory default settings and get you on your way. Good luck!!! If these don't help you, call the garmin support number at :1-800-800-1020. Hope this helps!

On my garmin nuvi250 w gps i cannot get all the letters on the letter screen to log in a street there are lank spaces for some of the letters i hit the mode button and all that comes up are choices of...

To reset the unit turn it off - hold your finger in the bottom right corner of the screen and keep it there whilst you turn it on. If that doesn't work, go to the Garmin Website to see if there's a firmware update that you need to download.

If that doesn't work the only option is to take it back to where you bought it and get it sent for repair.

Hope this helps. Please remember to rate my answer.

Many Thanks

You can't turn the navigation back on with this method. You must once again highlight the waypoint you want to navigate to in your Fine>Waypoints screen and then press the "Go to" highlighted button on the screen.

Touch-screen mishaps

Yes, this is a calibration problem. In order to correct this, turn the unit off. Press and hold the power button for a minute and the calibration screen should come up. Follow the on screen directions. If you cannot get this to work, you can try resetting the unit by removing the front cover, and pressing the reset button on the front right of the unit. This should help.
