Hard drive passwords are used to encrypt the entire hard drive and all the data on it, including booting up Windows. There's really no way around it unless you have the password. If you don't have the password, then the only way to use the computer might be to get a new hard drive for the computer. All the data on your current hard drive is encrypted and so there's very little way you can get into it.

A hard drive will work almost anywhere as long as you have the correct connection or adapter. You also need to make sure BIOS recognizes it if internal.

Dell Latitude C610 Notebook PC > Service Manual,

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd610/en/sm_en/index.htm

1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JqB4lkVxkA

2) Or take the laptop to the nearest authorized Dell repair shop; your ID, proof of purchase of laptop, and a credit card. Dell representative will ask Dell for a Master Password. Dell rep will then reset to NO password, or one you want. Dell rep KEEPS master password.

Removing CMOS Battery (Real Time Clock Battery. Also called Coin-Cell battery), will NOT work.

Hi foforera,

This sounds like either a HARDDRIVE PASSWORD or a SYSTEM PASSWORD. Especially if the prompt appears every time you turn on the PC. If this is the case, all I can say is that you should write down the exact message and call up or chat with Dell Technical Support since they are the only one's who can give you a password for that.

If the password you're talking about is the Windows logon password, then I would recommend that you find someone who has an administrator logon, and from there you can actually remove the password of your account. You can also go into Safe Mode, then log into the Administrator account, and from there remove the password on the account you are using.

Hope this helps!

Peace! :)

Hard drives have a section that, with the use of a program, allows you to install a hard drive password upon startup. If this is a computer you just got then you'll need the password. If it's a computer you've had for a while and it just started this, the hard drive has malfunctioned and needs replacing.
