Where is located my Toshiba Satellite L505D-S5986 hard drive indicator light and if is supposed to start blinking when I turn on my laptop. The problem is that when is on I get a black screen and no boot plus the fan is working fine but no hard drive activity, I try an external monitor but won't work either, what could be the problem?

The indicator lights for the Toshiba Satellite L500 series are the five lights in front, beneath the mousepad and to the right of the SD card slot. Starting from the left: the first one represents AC power, it lights when the computer is plugged in. The second is the computer power, it lights when the computer is on. The third light represents battery, indicating the charge on it. The fourth one is the one you are asking about, the hard drive indicator light. This blinks when hard drive activity is going on, when the computer is accessing data on the hard drive. So it should blink quite rapidly whenever you start up your computer. If the indicator light does not light whatsoever, it indicates that the computer is not getting any data from the hard drive and it's likely that your hard drive has failed. Check to see if the hard drive makes any clicking noises when you turn the computer on. If not, then the drive probably had died, and the only option may be to replace the hard drive. Hopefully, you have maintained backups of your data.
And in case you were wondering, the last indicator light is for the SD card. It blinks when the computer is retrieving data from an SD card.

Have you checked your RAM, CPU and motherboard. IF not you need to check those things and verify which one works and which one is not.

Try a different mouse, that would prove where the problem lies. Looks to me like the mouse is failing.

I don't think that's available on laptops; I've never seen it on Toshiba models. There is usually a small battery to save BIOS info and keep the clock going when the main battery is out. It's either under the keyboard or near the memory or wireless card compartment. Remove the main battery and leave the adapter unplugged. Open the compartments and look for a a connector with just a red and black wire connected to it - if you see it going to a coin cell, that's the one you want. Unplug it and wait ten seconds. Plug it in and put everything back together. If you got the right connector, your computer will probably go straight to BIOS and ask you to set the time and date.

The GPU in every laptop is soldered in place, if you have a lot of experience with reflowing then you can try to pull the GPU and replace it but a lot of the time it's actually more cost effective to get a replacement MB and sell the one that's having issues. Because the GPU may not be the only part that has gone out or it maybe another part that has gone out and is keeping the GPU from powering or outputting signals

My toshiba satellite l505d-s5986 has black screen and won't boot but fan is working

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow my instructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

Black screen even on ext monitor

External monitor confirmation means that you're not getting anything out. If there truly are not words coming up, telling you what's up, then you're probably looking at a bad logic board. It could be bad video, but if nothing, not even a fan, is spinning up, then you're not getting power across the system. Check all your power connections and inputs, but I'm leaning towards a bad system board.
