before you connect the netgear router to your 2wire modem, you have to get the modem configured first. you did not include the firmware version of your modem (firmware version is found at the UI, go to gateway.2wire.net, click on the system icon.) for firmware version less than 3.7, go to homeportal/management, click on configure services, uncheck enable routing, then click on submit. for version 3.7 or higher, go to homeportal/management, click on configure under broadband link, put a dot in disable pvc search, set VPI to 0 & VCI to 35, the connection type box should be direct IP, then click on submit. then go to configure services, uncheck enable routing box, then click submit. you will notice the broadband link on the 2wire modem turn orange/amber, then you have successfully set the modem to bridged mode. that way you can now connect the router according to manufacturer's instructions (or just read the manual for the netgear router....)

try to uninstall/remove the old driver and reinstal the latest driver of your linksys usb adapter. you can download it from the linksys website.
check again if you can get a wireless connection from the router to your 98pc. if not try to change the wireless channel of the 2wire to channel 1 and configure the wireless security again using the linksys usb wireless utility
if you still cant get a connection try to manually assign this ip address on the 98pc then check connection afterward.
IP add: 192.168.0.5
dns: dns number of the 2wire router
if you still cant get a connection after this try to install the wireless usb adapter to a diff computer to further isolate the problem.

The 2wire dsl modem/router cannot be use with a another cable modem , since this 2wire device is also a modem/router and its made for the DSL conenction that's why it wont work with Cox cable, the best thing that you can do is to ask Cox to give a wireless modem/router like this 2wire so you can still use the wireless connection of your computer..
Hope that helps..........

No. A router has 2 main interface types WAN (for the internet connection side, and LAN (for the home network side) the 'LAN' side often has up to 4 ports and wireless connectivity for the home network.
The most common routers available at electronics retail use a CAT-5 connection for the WAN ports and the LAN ports. Your DSL modem/router uses a phone line input for it's WAN port, which uses a signal type that is incompatible with the cable modem output.
If COX doesn't offer a router with the cable modem package, you can go and purchase and common brand of home networking router, and attach it to the output of the cable modem.
