let me explain you better, the USB ports are working fine for my USB mouse and keyboard but not for the USB Mass Storage Device (Pen Drive). If you can observe the picture which i had posted earlier, the USB mass storage tab showed with yellow icon..which means that the drivers for this is not available or isntalled properly.

The same port was working fine until few days back and i was able to use my drive but not now. Let me know how best i can correct the drivers issue

There might be more than a single USB option in the device manager.Expand the USB connections, right click on each and find the disabled one and enable it.You can repeat the same if you want to disable it.

yeah> In the same, expand the USB field. You might find something like this(check the image for reference). Just right click and you find the options like in the image as follows.

From what I can see, the device is not recognised by Windows. Likely, this is because you do not have the USB 2.0 drivers installed. Your mouse and keyboard will use USB 1.0 (which I can see as being installed).

You should check the website for your mainboard manufacturer and download the driver accordingly.

Let me know how you go!

First make sure you have the correct USB drivers for your phone installed on your pc. Go to device manager and see if your phone or mass storage device is listed. If not, download the drivers here, http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads. Make sure debugging on your phone is enabled. Please refer to the following:

  1. To set the Samsung Galaxy S2 to USB Mass Storage (MSC) mode, go into "Settings > Applications > Development" and enable "USB debugging".

  2. Then drag the status bar down and tap on "USB connected".

  3. The "USB connected" screen with the large green Android icon will appear. Tap on "Connect USB storage".

A confirmation dialog box will appear. Tap "OK". The green Android icon will turn orange, indicating that the phone is now in USB Mass Storage mode and should now appear as USB disk drives in "Devices with Removable Storage" and be assigned drive letters.

Failure to recognize CD ROM or USB ports

  1. Run Registry Editor (regedit).
  2. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsbStor
  3. In the right pane, double click on the Start value name.
  4. Change the value data to 4 to disable the removable USB mass storage device drive access
  5. 5.
  6. To revert and re-enable the drive access for removable USB mass storage device driver, change back the value data for Start to its original default of 3.
The change will take effect immediately to block any USB mass storage device such as USB flash drive, USB key and portable harddisk from been used in the system, while still allowing hardware components to work properly via USB connection. The hack works in most Windows operating system such as Windows Vista, XP, Windows Server 2008, 2003 and 2000.
For user who dare not to modify the registry manually, simply download the following registration entries file to enable or disable the USB drive. Extract the downloaded content in .ZIP format, and then double click on the .REG file to open and apply or merge the registry values to system.

I installed my sony NWZ as MTP device, but now i want to go back to simpler UMS (standard usb connection) ive tried removing the mtp drivers from device manager, but it always just auto installs... Can...

Since there's no easy option in the Walkman's settings to switch back and forth between MTP and UMS, there's a little trick to un-do the MTP drivers so that the unit becomes a straight USB Mass Storage drag/drop unit. You have to go into Device Manager (Windows XP), find the Walkman in the Portable Devices group, right click, then select Update Driver. Then select "No, not this time", then Next. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) then Next. Select "Don't Search, I will choose the driver to install", then Next. (Be sure to check the box beside Show Compatible Hardware) Highlight USB Mass Storage Device, then Next. (To revert back to MTP, just do the same thing but choose MTP instead of USB Mass Storage Device.) Personally, I'd never go back to the MTP mode. Having the Walkman seen by the computer as just another USB mass storage device allows the drag/drop transfers to go much faster

The computer makes a loud beeping sound 5 times

Mass storage device is a usb drive, flash memory etc.
If you disabled the usb device, it will no longer work, that is why you do not hear the beeping any more.
You need to get the correct device driver for your usb so it works correctly.
I hope this helps.
Good Luck.

Mass storage problem

This could be for a USB hub, for the laptop, look at the brand and go searching the manufactures site for the drivers to USB 2.0 or maybe even USB 1.0 but most likely 2.0

Unable to find Mass Storage Controller Driver

The mass storage controller is generally for usb devices that you've plugged in. USB keys, memory cards etc.

This kinda falls under the realm of the USB drivers for your mainboard... which if they're working, you don't need to do anything. XP service pack 2 supports USB2 just fine, but service pack 1 will require you to get your manufacturers drivers to get USB2 working at full-speed.

Why do you want to change the default driver anyway??
