Question about GE 27GT620 TV

1 Answer

Remote inop Has new batteries. Batteries are positioned correctly. Tried to work a little. Tried taking batteries out again and pushing button and reinstalled. Still no work. Is this possibly a reprograming issue? Thanks.

Step 1:

Have thee remote tested--most shops will do this for free--point remote at the tester and it will react when buttons are pressed on the remote.

Step 2:

A digital camera in many cases can also be used for this---in a very dark room point remote at the camera with the camera on---press buttons and look for a tiny flash of light on the camera display screen.

Step 3:

If remote tests bad it can usually be taken apart and fixed OR you can opt for a new remote---I would avoid universal remotes as they often if program will be missing key and needed button/features.

In our shop we fix remotes with a 10 dollar max price--lots we fix for free.

Step 4:

Last but not least if the remote tests good the remote receiver inside the front of the set may be bad and a shop would have to replace that unless you are able.

Here is a photo of the typical receiver (less than 1/2 inch tall part).

Look for a small opening with little white tabs that can be moved up and down, on both the train and the remote. All the tabs must be in the same position. ( Same thing on a garage door opener.)
If that's not it, make sure the batteries are in correctly in both items, reversed batteries will run lites and such, but not remote controls.

Put new batteries in my remote and it doesnt work still is there anything else i can do to get my remote working again

This only takes about a minute and will restart 1 in 3 "Dead" Original Remote Controls.

Step 1- Pull the batteries out of the remote and leave them out until Step 4.

Step 2- Press and release each and every button one at a time on the remote control until every button has been pressed and released at least once!

Step 3- If your remote has slide switches, you must move the switch to
each position then repeat the button pushing in Step 2.
(When you're done, be sure to put the slide switch in the correct position to operate the unit the remote came with!)

Step 4- Put the batteries back into the remote, being very careful to install them correctly.
New batteries should be used if you're not sure about the old ones.

Step 5- Try the remote.

Special Note:

If you have a digital camera, camcorder or camera phone you can test the remote to see if it is emitting a signal. Face the remote towards the lens of the digital unit until you can see the front of the remote. Depress any button on the remote. You should see a light (steady, blink or flashing) being emitted from the remote.
If you do then the problem might not be the remote but the sensor on the set.

Remote control not responding

Hi,

Are you sure it's the remote? It could also be a faulty Infra-red (IR) receiver in the TV.

First, try this trick for unfreezing a 'dead' remote:

1. Remove the batteries.
2. Press and release every button on the remote one at a time until every button has been pressed and released at least once.
If your remote has any slide switches, you must repeat the button pushing for each switch position. When you've pushed all the buttons, put the slide switch back in the correct position to operate the device you use it for.
3. Put the batteries back in the remote, and make sure they are correctly installed. Use new batteries if you're unsure about the old ones.
4. Try the remote.

If this doesn't work, check the remote is sending a signal. Take it into a darkened room and look into the end which you point at the TV/VCR, etc. Press a few buttons and make sure you can see the red LED flashing. Alternatively, get someone to point the remote at you and press some buttons while you look at it through the viewfinder of any digital camera or an analogue (tape) video camera - a mobile phone will be fine for this. You should see the flashes clearly.

If you can see the flashes, try replacing the batteries and try with the TV again. If it still doesn't work, it's likely that the IR receiver in your TV (or whichever device you are using it with) has failed.

If you can't see any flashes after doing all of the above, then your remote is probably dead and the easiest thing to do is replace it as repairing it will cost almost as much (or more) than buying a new one.

Remote stopped working

Try the buttons on the TV to verify that the set is working. Then;
Step 1- Pull the batteries out of the remote and leave them out until Step 4.
Step 2- Press and release each and every button one at a time on the remote control until every button has been pressed and released at least once!
Step 3- If your remote has slide switches, you must move the switch to each position then repeat the button pushing in Step 2.
(When you're done, be sure to put the slide switch in the correct position to operate the unit the remote came with!)
Step 4- Put the batteries back into the remote, being very careful to install them correctly.
New batteries should be used if you're not sure about the old ones.
If you are still having problems, you may have to replace the remote.

Tv won't stop changing channels

You need to isolate the problem.
1) Unplug the set for a few seconds then plug it in.
2) Operate the TV with the control/buttons on the TV. (Channels etc)
If the TV operates correctly then do the following.
3) Try operating with the remote unit. If the problem returns then it's the remote failing.

Sometime remotes can be reset.
Try this;
Step 1- Pull the batteries out of the remote and leave them out until Step 4.

Try it again. If the problem is still there then the remote is bad.
Since this is a new TV you should use your warranty to replace any bad parts.

Sony RM-ASP001 for 400 disk changer stopped working

Try the command code switch. I recently had a similar problem when my remote suddenly stopped working. It worked fine one time but nothing the next time I tried it.

I checked the emitter with a digital camera and found it was not working. I did the remote reset (remove batteries and push all the buttons twice, reinsert batteries) and the emitter was now working. However, the remote would still not control the base unit. I did the remote base code reset (push power, volume and TV/DVD buttons together) but this did not help. I then checked the command code switch. This is a small three position slide switch located in the battery compartment on the remote. I slid the switch back and forth several times returning to the default number one setting where it was before. I did not change anything on the base unit but the remote now worked.

Hope this helps.
