Question about Magellan Maestro 4250 GPS

Magellan 4250 reset

I was asked to reset my 4250 after failure to download update. After reset, my computer will not find the gps and the gps will go no furthure than the intro blue screen. no idea what to do next. Same problem, here. Already spent about 45 minutes with their tech people just to get the map update installed. Then it wouldn't get past the blue screen.

Guess I'll call them back and try to get the repair also.

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WILL NOT GO PAST THE BLUE SCREEN

I had the same problem trying to update the firmware to 4.60. Could not find the GPS in the Magellan Update Wizard. After inserting a SD card in the slot it finally recognized it. However the infamous blue screen is all that I can get to come up when I power up the GPS???

SOURCE: Map update error problem with Magellan 4250

I called tech support and they said that the update requires XP SP1 or SP2, NOT SP3. I have not tried it yet, but they told me it was a problem with not being compatible with XP service pack 3

If I am correct you can put it on the sd card

I also had problems with a refurbished Magellan 4250. The paperwork inside said to install the 4.85 firmware update which I found would not work with Windows XP Home at least for me. I used my laptop which has Vista Ult 32 bit it updated with no problem that is so far the only solution I used.

I when turn on my Maestro 4250 the screen is all white and I don't see any menu.

Plug it into your computer to see if it recognizes it. Perform a software update from magellan's website. If it still has the white screen, press the reset button with a pen.

If none of that works, then your unit may be defective. Call magellan for a warranty replacement.

I updated my magellan 4250 to v4.86 and now it will not work with the car charger. Screen states that USB is connected and I should follow prompts on PC screen. It work fine before the upgrade.

turn it on and hook it back up to the computer and once it has installed, use the safely remove hardware wizard to remove the 4250 from your computer, then plug it into your car again...if that fails, turn it on then try the reset on the side (little pin hole) use a paperc clip to reset it.

if you need further help, just reply to this post.

Our Magellan Maestro 4250, came on by itself and will not turn off.

is it plugged to AC charge when it comes on?

If not seek out the RESET hole and place a fine pin or paper clip end in and reset the unit

Maestro 4250 frozen after incomplete 2009 map up date

I had same problem on 3/28/09.

According to Magellan and other people who have experienced the same problem, this is terminal to the unit. It can be caused by downloading the 08/09 Magellan map upgrade, which can cause the unit to permanently lock up. Magellan is well aware of the problem, and should offer to replace your unit if you have the problem. If you elect to have it repaired, Magellan can download the map upgrade for you in the repair process. Here is a site noting the same problem: http://74.125.93.104/search?q=cache:pNLjGT-i4-sJ:forums.gpsreview.net/viewtopic.php%3Ft%3D8958+magellan+4250+gps+stays+on+blue+screen&cd=8&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

Questions for Magellan: 1) why would they sell, in 2009, gps units with old 2007 maps loaded in them, requiring the purchaser to buy a current map, and 2) if there is a problem with downloading the current maps, why is there not an advisement or warning to the installer.

Other than replacing the unit, there appears to be no "fix".

I had the same problem until I plugged the usb cable into the back port of my computer. Then it worked. Something about using a higher speed usb port.
