The tray is usually detected by an opto interrupter device. When they or the interconnecting circuits fail this is the symptom you will have. It can also be due to the alignment of the tray. This is why all of my CD players are not changers.

Glad to be of some help, many of these units do not have an easy answer due to complicated designs. Sometimes a Technician and schematics is the only thing betwen a working unit and landfill. Good for you that it now works.

SOURCE: Technics SL-PD888: Output signal is distorted/overdriven.

I can't find a manual. If it has both analog and digital outputs, compare both for sound quality and report the results. Also try them on different INputs of your electronics to eliminate that as a problem.

Let's examine THAT side, too. What are the components involved and how are they connected?

My HP 2430 continues to jam on Tray 2 only. Tray 3 and Tray 1 (manual feed) are fine. I have replaced rollers and it continues to jam paper.

Common problem on this printer is for either the drive shaft for tray 2 to come lose or to break. Pull out the tray and try to rotate the roller. If it turns freely then the shaft is broken. The replacement procedure is too complex to describe here. If the roller does not turn freely then likely the pick solenoid has failed.

What CD types does the PD887 play (CD-R, CD+R, MP3 format)?

You will have to experiment on this unit. I have looked at the owners manual and it does not refer to ANY type of recordable media. Your unit may not be able to play any recorded media. That is why I suggest that you try -R first, then you may want to try a Audio CD, specifically made for audio.

Here is a link to your owners manual if you need it.

I hope that this helps you.
