Which version of Linux is on your Aspire One?

If it is Linux Linpus Lite (which comes with the AAO as default) then you could try pressing ALT+F2 from the desktop to open the terminal(console) and type SUDO SU and try chaning the root password that way.

OR

I strongly suggest downloading Linux Mint (either version 7, 8 or 9) and installing it from a USB memory stick as Linux mint works incredibly well with the AAO.

Acer crystal eye webcam icon lost and can't be found

The fastest way of fixing it just reinstalling the driver. here's the link
http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Driver/Wireless%20LAN/Wireless%20LAN_Intel_11.5.1.8_Vistax64Vistax86_A.zip?acerid=633958596890069624&Step1=Notebook&Step2=Aspire&Step3=Aspire%206920&OS=V10&LC=en&BC=Acer&SC=PA_6

After you download it and run it. It would probably tell you If you want to uninstall instead of install. Uninstall, restart the computer and run the software again to reinstall. It should fix your issue. I hope this helps.

Acer 5315 not working after I log on!!!

There are a couple of different ways you may have lost your icons. They could have disappeared when you installed a certain program or even when you upgraded to a new operating system.
To enable those icons and more, right click on your desktop and choose Properties. Click on the Desktop tab and hit the Customize Desktop button. Next, under the General tab, check off any of the icons you want to appear on your desktop.
Once you do that, they will all be returned to your desktop in full view. You can choose from the icons of My Documents, My Computer, My Network Places and Internet Explorer. Now, on the other hand, you may want to take some of those icons off your desktop. If that's the case, just uncheck them and they will be out of your way.

Acer Linux Webcam not working with TokBox

Linux, unfortunately, isn't officially supported by Tokbox in full (some customers have issues, some don't). If you're on the most recent version of Flash (Flash 10+), downgrading to an older version of Flash (9.0.124) or above *might* help.

Skype for linux

How did you install it? Often times Linux installers won't add icons to your desktop or menu's. Sometimes you just have to open the command line and type the command to start the program. For instance, open a command prompt, and try typing:

skype

And see what happens.

Unable to install linux

The Acer Aspire 4710 uses a SATA hard drive. Unfortunately Redhat Linux 9.0 does not have SATA support (uses the 2.4 kernel). You will have to upgrade to something recent like Fedore Core 7 or Ubuntu 7.10. Hope this helps.
