SOURCE: outer back and side of fridge is very hot

Turn it off. If you keep running it, it will die completely fairly soon. Please feel free to jump to the end if you don't want a fridge science lecture - it might help you figure out the problem though. When a fridge/freezer runs, the condenser (all the tubes at the back) will get warm-hot. That is where the heat goes from inside the fridge. First thing to check; is there excessive heat to remove from the fridge/freezer? Check the door seals are ok - cold air falling out of a bad door seal can make a fridge both cool and warm a room at the same time - which obviously leads to problems Check that the lights inside actually go off when you close the door by pressing the switch that the door usually presses when it shuts, and checking that the door will press the switch as far as it needs to go. Second thing; Check that there is adequate ventilation at the back - remember the ideal situation technically for a fridge is to have the bit at the back outside the house in the shade like an air-con unit. pull the fridge a bit more away from the wall and try blowing a fan onto it. Clean gently with a soft brush any dust etc that is on all the tubes at the back - it can cause an insulating coat to form. If the dust is sticky and hard to shift, then gently use a soft paintbrush and warm soapy water. Third thing; When the amount of refrigerant gas in a fridge system is getting low (they all leak a tiny bit all the time - even without any fault) two main things happen: The fridge gas has a lubricant mixed in with it that keeps the inside parts of the system oiled. when the gas is low, so is the oil and you get the same effect as running a car with no oil - runs hot, then dies. The low gas has an effect inside and outside the fridge - inside, near where the gas first enters the evaporator (the plate in the fridge that gets cold) it will get extra cold. the compressed refrigerant evaporates too quickly - easy way to explain is that there is nothing in front of it in the queue so it runs through too quick. the same thing happens in reverse when the gas goes into the condenser at the back, the gas condenses too quickly making the back very hot. I think, from what you say, that low gas is the problem. Although it is not too complicated, it is illegal for you to do it yourself in most places for environmental and safety reasons - get any fridge repair guy and he can do it and check for leaks at the same time. Hope this helps, and is in time to save your fridge :)

SOURCE: Refridgerator stops cooling

Check the compressor relay near the compressor on the back bottom of the fridge. Check voltage it should read about 115, up above that there is a computer sensor, check that also has a fuse on it. One of the two is bad, they are cheap part and you can find them on LG.com

SOURCE: Interior light bulbs stay on?

There is a switch on the inside of your frige that has gone bad. The switch is a slide type switch so when you open or close the door it makes the switch slide in and out, making the light come on and off. You need to write down the make and model # of your refrigerator and order a new switch either from the manufacturer or from the place you bought it. Once you have the new switch, unplug the refrigerator, take a flat head screw driver and gently pry the switch from the interior face, pull the two wires off and replace the old switch with the new. The switch is very inexpensive and very easy to replace. Calling a service technician out to do this could cost you more than you expect. If you are not very "mechanicaly enclinded" then just order the switch and have a brother, neihbor, or someone that is mechanicaly savy come over and fix it for you. It should not even take 5 minutes. ;-)

I have a LG fridge freezer that wont stop beeping any help would be greatful model number..GWB227WLQA

Most new style have a warning tone that door is open.
start by manually pushing any door switches ( interior lights should go out). If light stays on you have faulty switch.
Freezer with no light a little harder, but if you have meter and are able to get switch out you can test for continuity.
Not sure of voltage to switch so remove power to fridge while removing switch.
With power removed ( unplugged) you maybe able to remove switch and connect wires together with electrical tape. Plug unit back in see if alarm is off.
Remember if not comfortable with that process call service.

Remove all items from the fridge and keep open the fridge doors for atleast 2 days and that will remove all the frosted ice on the evaporator(which can't be seen) and shall work fine after two days.

LG Refrigerator side by side suddenly not working at all other than interior lights.

If you're lucky, it's just the capacitor on the motor. Have it checked, but be prepared to need a new compressor.

Karri,

I experienced the same problem with my LG refrigerator (model LFC25760ST). Came home from a weekend trip only to find that the light bulb assembly had melted and dropped onto the top shelf. The interior of the refirgerator compartment was very warm (est. 70 to 80 degrees) and everything in it had spoiled. Fortunately, nothing worse had happened. (According to consumer information on the Internet this LG refrigerator is suspected - but not proven - to have been the cause of a couple of house fires.)

There was no recall, however, because the reports to the Consumer Products Safety Commission were for less than 5% of this model sold in the U.S. But if you contact LG customer service (1-800-243-0000) whether your unit is still under warranty or not they should send someone out to replace the lamp assembly at no charge to you - this one with a heat sensor that serves as a backup to turning the lights off once the doors are closed.

Newer LG refrigerators have LED lights instead of incandescent light bulbs so they don't produce enough heat to warm the interior of the fridge or melt the light housing.

To learn more about other folk's similar experiences with these LG refrigerators just do an Internet search using "LG and "LCF25760" and "melted plastic." (Note: Leave the other letters after the five numbers in the model number off - they only refer to the exterior finish [i.e., "ST" = stainless steel] and unnecessarily narrow the search so as to miss some links.

Good luck with LG customer service.

LG issued a service flash about this very problem, so you may be in luck. The last one I did for a customer was paid for by LG.. In a nutshell, LG screwed up. The control board that the lights tie into has a bad relay, which causes the lights to stay on all the time. The fix is to get a new control board and a new light harness. The new harness has a thermal switch that shuts off the lights should they not shut off in the future. I'd try LG customer service and see if they can help you out.

Good Luck!
