Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a Frigidaire front load washer model # gltf290f that was purchased February 2009. In the last month, it has started leaving a gray film and tearing holes in clothes near the front of the drum (closest to door). This happens regardless of how full the load is. I believe the clothes are getting caught between the drum and the rubber seal in front of it. Why is this happening and is there a way to fix it?? Please help my family of six to not lose any more clothes.

I would replace the bellow (front seal) on the unit. It is not a cheap part but it will save the clothes! Here is the part if you decide to order it.
Let me know if you want to do it and I will give you instructions on how to do it. It is a simple process. If you call a repairman you are looking at about $400.00 for the job to be done.

Glass on my front load frigidaire washing machine is broken. Cost to much for service repair so where can I find the glass and fix it myself?

Hello - Do you have the exact model number? With that information I can provide you the part number, however most parts can be purchase directly from the manufacturer or through a parts distributor in your area (part numbers may be different). Keep in mind that you may also visit the manufacturer website. I will recommend taking off the last letter of the model number so you can pull up the information.

I am sick of my washer smelling all of the time. We have done all the things that others have stated to try. I think that there should be a recall on the Frigidaire front load washer. I am very sorry...

Maytag is not american anymore. You will have the same problems. Front load maintenence 101.

dont use natural or green detergents that are plant oil based. Use HE detergent only, powder is preferable. Leave the door open for 24 hours after the last wash load is done. mildew can not grow in the absence of moisture. Once a month run the washer empty with 2 cups of bleach on the hottest setting possible. If you dont do this from day 1, you may have to do it several times to get rid of the built up gunk.

last tip, and the most important. dont use too much detergent. HE washers use much less water than a regular washer. If you put a ton of soap in there, it will build up over time because your washer doesnt use enough water to rinse it out. If you start a load of laundry with no soap, but you see bubbles in the water, it means you have too much soap residue in your washer.

use good quality detergent. Save money by using less of it, not by using cheap detergent. Unless your clothes are really dirty, you can safely use half of the recommended amount.

Black mold growing on gray rubber boot inside door.

Leave washer door slightly ajar after use to air out any moisture. Should prevent any future mold.

My washer has a really bad smell like musty if i leave the doors closed or if I leave clothes in for a couple of hours is this a probem with them

hi there,

the musty smell is from the door boot or gasket. deposit from clothes and detergent get trapped in there and have nowhere else to go. i would recommend purchasing Washerfresh tables to get rid of the deposits. they are available all over.
