Win 7 "cannot identify device" Dell 1600n

On Windows 7 machine, downloaded and installed Dell drivers for Dell 1600n network printer/scanner MFP. On setup, printer is not shown in list of printers. Click on "add printer," and driver automatically identifies the correct IP address for the printer (and shows "port name" "IP_[IP address"). Click "next" and says repeatedly "cannot identify 192.168.1.4 device [ IP address of printer ]." How do I resolve this?

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

Hello.

Just some thoughts:

1. Configure your printer as a TCP/IP network port, on your Windows 7 laptop
2. Disable your laptop's firewall and antivirus software to see if there is interference
3. To see if the message is not coming from the printer at all - try disconnecting the printer from your router and see if you still get it

Hope this helps.

All functions work on my 1600n printer with the exception of the scanner. The workstation names that normally appear when a doc is scanned do not appear

The Dell 1600n requires that the Dell Network Scan Manager is running. Windows Vista and Windows 7 require user level authorization for this app to run properly and may be prompting you at start up. If you are telling it "no" when propmted then this is one thing that can be hanging you up. It is also possible the app is simply not running at all. Go to start>programs>Dell>Network Scan and see if it picks it up then. This app is how the dell printer itself gets the names to put in the list of available workstations to scan to.

Dell 1600n printer driver for Windows 2003 Server

I had a similar problem deploying these printers, however i found using the XP drivers in 2003 does work fine. Not sure why dell doesnt have an installer for this printer in 2003 server, but here you go.

ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/printer/R165289.EXE

extract that file, note its destination directory. do not attempt to run the setup.exe, it will fail saying your operating system is not supported.

instead navigate to (if you didnt change the path) C:DelldriversR165289p0nPrinterPCLWINXP

this folder contains the driver you need to install manually.

one stange thing about these lexmark based network printers is the need to select 'local printer' during install, uncheck automatically search for my device, and then create a new TCP/IP port. Use the IP address provided by the network configuration print out you can access on the front panel of the printer. now just make sure to select 'lexmark network card' as the type of network interface. it should now ask you for your printer type, click have disk, and point to the driver folder mentioned earlier.

hope this helps. thanks alot dell.

Windows Vista can't find networkd Dell 1600n

Make sure you're using the drivers for Vista, which can be found on support.dell.com. You'll want to use the choice for Vista 32-bit.

Also, try turning off your firewall, as it may be blocking the network data.
