Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I am computer geek for a district high school. I have had the following problem with 7 or 8 computers in the last 2 months. Computer goes to sleep and does not wake up even if I hold the power button in for 5 minutes. I pull the power cord, leave out for 5 minutes and then put back in. Try to re-start. The power light comes on but I get no hd activity and no video. But if I leave the computer alone for a day or so, it works fine. What's UP?

SOURCE: computer cuts off

Simply replace the power supply with a working one to confirm power supply problem. If the power supply is the problem than ask your grandson to open the casing of the power supply unit and see if there are bulgy signs on the top of the capacitors, and replace them with the specific ones. This problems may arise because of defective components, it might be best to leave it to the technicians to do the repair. Hope it helps.

You have to Reformat your Drive and Install Windows 7, if you do not have the Windows 7 Disk, then you are going to have to use an external drive and I am afraid that you are probably better off having a local computer geek (or high school student) install the program for you. There is also a possiblity of a Propriertary Problem you will encounter...

Windows sleep mode problems

Sleep mode on a Windows 7 PC saves power without you having to turn your computer off and without losing any work. This option cuts the power to your monitor, powers down the hard drive and pauses all functions until you awaken the computer from hibernation. Whether you have a laptop, desktop or workstation, putting your computer into sleep mode will lower your electric bill and save money! Click the "Start" button in the lower left corner of your desktop. In the lower right corner of the Start menu, next to the "Shut Down" button, is a button labeled with a small, right-pointing arrow. Mouse over the arrow. The Shut Down menu appears. Point at "Sleep" and click on this option. Your Windows 7 computer goes into sleep mode. Wake your computer from sleep mode by jiggling the mouse. There may be a delay of a few seconds before your hardware powers on. All of your open programs are still open and your work is intact, just as you left it before the computer entered sleep mode. Configure your Windows 7 PC to go into sleep mode automatically when it is not used for a certain amount of time. Click "Start" and select "Control Panel." Click "System and Security." Click "Power Options." A menu opens. Click on "Choose when the computer sleeps" and select the number of minutes of inactivity. You can also set a separate time interval to put your monitor into sleep mode. If you set both to 10 minutes, then your PC and monitor will automatically go into sleep mode after 10 minutes of inactivity

I cant go on youtube on a school computer

Depending on the error message that you are seeing, it is highly likely that the school district has blocked the website from being loaded on any computer that is on their network.

You might try to load it through a masking site (translate.google.com sometimes works too), but you could get into trouble for doing that by the school, and some of them are riddled with virus, so I won't post those instructions here.

On the bottom ther is two Zz what is it and what dose it do also how do i turn it off fn + f1 is not working

The zz mean that the computer is in sleep mode. Pressing the fn+F1 keys actually induces the sleep mode for your pc. To turn off sleep mode, follow these instructions.

1. Go to the task bar in the lower right corner of your screen.

2. Right -click on the battery icon and select Power Options.

3. This will bring up the Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options window.

4. On the left hand side of the window, select "Change when the Computer Sleeps"

5. This will bring up the Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings window with options for different settings on the battery and plugged in.

6. Click on the arrow for the drop down menu next to Put the Computer to Sleep>Select Never (last option) do this for both plugged in and battery mode if this is your choice.

7. Click on Save Changes.

Goes into sleep mode will not come back on for 2 weeks or longer

It might be setup to go into sleep mode if it is left idle for a certain period of time. To change the settings click the following(I am assuming you have windows vista or windows 7):
Start,Control Panel,Power options,Choose when the computer goes to sleep(look on the left side),Then adjust the settings to what you wish by clicking the black arrow there.
Also check the "choose when to turn off the screen" in the same spot you clicked Choose when the computer goes to sleep.

Monitor goes to sleep and won't wake up

Yeah, im not sure about how to fix the problem with it shutting down like that, but one option is to go under your control panel and taking off the sleep function, or putting it on a 4 hour timer so that doesnt go into sleep mode anymore. However, the problem is not your monitor but your computer. Id just take the sleep mode off, there is no need to have it on.
