Question about Canon Pixma iP3600 InkJet Photo Printer
Just bought a supposedly new printer off ebay and the printhead is stuck inside the casing and wont move and is making horrible noises when I switch the printer on and the error light starts to flash. The print head was pre-installed which if brand new would not be the case as I already have an ip3600 & had to install the printhead myself. I dont think it has been used as there is no ink anywhere inside & is as clean as a whistle. I am wondering if he installed the printhead wrong & hence the problem and decided to sell on ebay? He aslo stated no returns in his listing and listed it as new, unwanted present. Any help will be most appreciated..
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

SOURCE: Canon MP500 Printer head error
Print heads for nearly all printers are rated at 2 years. You may also need to clean the tube from the resevoir at the ink supply to the cartridge and clean the working resevoir on the cartridge as well. If you are up to this challenge there is a how-to at your manufacturer's web site or you can have a tech do it. Most people, when they realize how inky you will be getting choose to have a tech do this.
It is best to use 100% denatured alcohol, from your hardware store, to clean these parts and tubing. But, you must take precautions.
DO NOT USE DENATURED ALCOHOL UNLESS YOU READ AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS ON THE BACK OF THE CAN.
I'm not kidding about the precautions. I do all this stuff outside when there is a breeze in the air and then I stay up wind of my work.
If you have any questions whatsoever just feel free to comment back to me.

Sounds like the print head is no good. This happens. Here's a link to a site that sells them reasonably.

Try keeping the paper only in the bottom tray (there's a tray in the bottom) Try pulling any paper out of the top and just close that top tray. Open up the head so that u can see the ink cartridges and turn the printer on and off and maybe it will center itself again. If it's still not working (even if lights aren't red and print head wont align in the center) try manually moving the head back and forth like 18 times so you can lubricate that rail in the back that's holding it. After that, re-turn it off and on again.

This is not an all-in-one inkjet that you can service at home. This is a large format printer, and print head replacement requires adjustment. The job is suitable for a technician or for an experienced DIY user that can service large format printers and copiers.
After replacement the print head rail must be greased and print head calibrated. If this operations are not getting done correctly, the printer may result damaged.
About error code:
The error code given is incomplete
Error:03800200-2802 means "Incorrect Print Head Installed".
Error:03010000-2820 means "Unable to adjust printhead registration"
If you have first error, then the printhead is either faulty or the part is wrong.
If you are in case two, try performing print head registration, if that does not work, then the print head has not been installed correctly.
The calibration procedure must be performed each time the head is replaced:
4.5.2 Procedure after Replacing the Carriage Unit or Multi Sensor
a) Multi Sensor Recalibration
Since multi sensors have individual electrical specificity, the following are recalibrated at the factory, namely, the optical axis of the sensor, the sensor gain for measuring the printhead height and color reproduction.
Accordingly, carry out the following adjustments in the service mode whenever replacing the carriage unit or multi sensor.
* The multi sensor reference plate must be replaced at the same time whenever the carriage or the multi sensor is being replaced.
- Service mode : SERVICE MODE > ADJUST > GAP CALIB
- Service mode : SERVICE MODE > ADJUST > SENSOR CALIB
Test chart : CL-7( Tool No. : FY9-9323 Use anew chart.)
- Service mode : SERVICE MODE > ADJUST > PRINT PATTERN > OPTICAL AXIS
Media type : Photo glossy paper
Media size : Media having a width equal toor larger then that of 24inch-size paper
If that does not work you need to proceed to wire roller adjustment. The adjustment is usually not needed if you replaced only the print head, and not the carriage:
b) Adjusting the wire roller
To prevent the wire roller mounted on the carriage from contacting the duct and others during carriage operation, perform the following adjusutment whenever tou have removed or replaced the carriage unit. This adjustment is not required when you have replaced only the multi sensor.
* Make adjustments with the carriage lock released.
* Make adjustments with the tube disconnected from the tube guide.
(1) Loosen the two screws
(2) Turn the gear until the lift cam flag reaches the position shown below.
* Bottom position where the sensor light is blocked by the flag (lowest position to which the carriage may descend)
