You ideally don't need to scan your system daily, you can schedule it to do a full system scan once a fortnight. Just ensure you have active protection enabled on your anti-virus, that would prevent any executable file or script from infecting your computer.

You either have to leave it open or change the setting in the power section of control panel for what the laptop does when you close the lid

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Vista will not boot

Shutdown and then take your hard drive out, connect it to another PC with a USB adapter/cable, and use that other PC's anti-virus (e.g., McAffee) and anti-malware (e.g., malwarebyte) to scan and clean your hardrive. Make sure your hard drive does not overheat during the scan/cleaning process. After cleaning, re-insert hard drive in your laptop and boot.

The Best Free PC Security

Free PC Security: OS Microsoft Windows 2,000, XP, 2003, Vista, 7

These are the best free security programs that I have found that actually do get rid of mal-ware, spy-ware, viruses, and worms for free. If your security program is not protecting your system very well, or it is an older paid for version that is now out of date and will not update any longer unless you purchase the new version, then you might do well to download and install these very powerful and efficient security programs.

You should only have one anti-virus/anti-spy-ware program installed and running on your PC or a conflict can occur, besides the fact that there would be an un-necessary use of the system resources. If you remove your old security program be sure to remove it from the add and remove programs in the control panel (some security programs have to be disabled before they can be removed). Also mal-ware is not the same as viruses, spy-ware, or worms. Malwarebytes will not remove any viruses, spy-ware, or worms, and AVG will not remove any mal-ware either.

AVG-Free Edition will automatically update itself and run security scans, it can be set from the AVG control panel in tools, advanced settings, schedules. You should set up the schedule so that it will update and scan at a time when the PC is not in use (usually during the middle of the night).

Also be sure that the Microsoft auto-update is not scheduled to run at the same time that you scheduled AVG to update or run a scan, if it is then change the Microsoft auto-update settings to something that will not run at the same time that AVG runs, for example (evryday 9:00 a.m., every Sunday 9:00 a.m., etc.). You can change the Microsoft auto-update settings in control panel, auto-updates.

Malwarebytes is the best free anti mal-ware program that I have found, the free edition will not auto-update or auto-scan and these functions must be manually done, but that is trivial compared to the protection that this program provides. After Malwarebytes has been installed, update it from the update tab and then check for any updates, after any updates then run a scan from the scanner tab, and then select a Full scan for the first time.

If you are using Vista right click on Malwrebytes and select Run As Administrator.

To fully protect your PC, Malwarebytes should be ran anytime that you close your web browser and are done using the internet, you should run a quick scan and if any malware is found then you should also run a full scan to be sure that the malware has been completely purged from your entire PC.

You can also protect your PC from known rogue web sites by downloading and installing SpywareBlaster, it does not scan for anything, and it does not remove anything, SpywareBlaster will prevent your internet explorer from connecting to known restricted, harmful, or rogue web sites for an added layer of protection.

Download AVG-Free Edition from here;

Download Malwarebytes from here;

Download SpywareBlaster from here;

These security programs will do a very good job at protecting your PC from internet threats. I used to have to fight these threats all the time to get rid of them, on either friends or family if not my own PC, but ever since I have installed these three programs on my system, and that of all my friends and family, it has actually become quite boring and I almost miss the battles.

Cq60 shut down and restarts itself

Common if backup, windows update, or defrag is scheduled to run at night. Other scheduled operations may use the restart function as well.

Hello,I Have big problem, every day Between 13:00 & 14:00 clock the device become very slow please if you know solutions tell me ?? i am waiting ,, Regards.

Make sure that your anti-virus is not performing a scheduled exam during those times.

Your system will slow down because your anti-virus might be performing a scan during those times.

Hope this helps.

Applications Closing Instantly

Yes, it sounds like a computer-virus.
Remove the disk-drive from your desktop computer,
and attach it as a "slave" disk-drive to some other desktop computer, and then run a full virus-scan.

Or, just follow "best practises":
* backup your data & music & E-mail & contacts,
* reinstall Windows from trusted media,
* run Windows Update a bunch of times,
* reinstall anti-virus software,
e.g., http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials
* reload your files.

My HP pavillion is only 1 year old. It is now only operable in safe mode. There may be a virus but AVG can't destroy. Or CPU may be faulty. Cannot access internet or speakers. Geek Squad could not...

Try to use other computer and download avast home edition from HERE. When you downloaded it, copy it to your laptop and install though you are in safe mode. After you install avast, you schedule a boot scan so that it will detect and remove viruses during boot time. Here is a screen shot:

My hp deskdop model -sr2180nx, 32bit,1gb,vista,computer is really slow on startup and for explorer to appear, help please.

Hello markus1234,
I used to have slow start up problems and found a program called advanced system care. The free version works perfectly. Run install and open application. Run the main windows utility and diagnostic and this should help out the problem.

You may also want to try a program like malewarebytes which is free. Alot of the slowing could be due to spyware
