Question about Radio Shack Pro-2096 Base Scanner
We bought it at the radio shack store in salem, n.h. and 15 days before the warranty went out, the display totaly went out but you could still hear the action but the display was blank.
My grand mother brought it to the store and the MGR exchanged the display for the bad one. (that was good)
Now just over 34 days, the display on the NEW one has black vertical lines from top to bottom.
Is this a common thing with radio shack scanners.
My grand mother paid FULL price for the scanner for my grandfather who had cancer. He passed away and my grand mother is stuck with a $500.00 useless scanner. Can anyone help me fix this scanner.
Thank you all.
You can push on the display with your finger and see if you notice any change, if so it is probably a bad solder joint or crack in a circuit trace on the printed circuit board. Also with the unit unplugged you can open up the case and check for loose plugs by removeing them and then plugging them back in, then plug the scanner back into the wall outlet and turn it on to see if that helped. The voltages inside are low except where the power cord goes into the unit, at the fuse, and on the primary side of the transformer, so dont touch these areas unless you know what you are doing.
