SOURCE: lg minisplit heat pump will not heat

You may want to check that the pressure switch is not functioning? Secondly there is also a thermo sensor on the condenser coil which could be faulty.

SOURCE: Reversing valve issues.

You will need to replace the reversing valve. You cannot replace the coil with a remote sensing bulb on this unit. Usually you know when reversing valves get stuck when you are having low side problems with heat working properly

Sounds like reversing valve is stuck or metering device or check valve is stuck open. If it is a scroll compressor on 3 phase you may need to reverse 2 motor leads. try tapping reversing valve with rubber mallet when running. This may have done in last compressor by sending discharge gas to suction side.

Your solution is throw that Hunter tsat away and get a good one. You need one with 2 stage heat 1 stage cool heat pump tstat. Heat pump tsta has w,y,o,g,w,rnad w2. Don,t buy one without this one it. I have been in this business 45 years and people are always getting sold the wrong tstat at Lowe or Home Depot. Those guys dont know jack about Tstats. Keep in touch Rus GOOD LUCK. Get the right tstat follow the letter on wiring and you wont have any problem.

The only unit I know that energizes the reversing valve in heat is Ruud or Rheem, All other makes energize in cool. When you switch from heat to cool htere is five minute delay. The y energizes the contactor on heat and cool. Make sure your tstat is ok. Rus Keep in touch.

I have a RUUD UPKA-036jaz heatpump. Anytime the thermostat is set to heat, the reversing valve coil is energized. Even if the unit isn't running. Is that normal?


Most heat pump reversing valves energize in cooling. Does it ever "deenergize". If not its stuck, if it does check programming, may be setup to operate that way. Or possibly wired wrong or wired as straight cool. To answer your question, i dont think that is normal.

On a heat pump the difference from heat to cool is the reversing valve.
In cooling or heating the Y1 terminal will always be energized, this is the contactor.
Depending on brand the reversing valve will either be energized in Heat or Cool. At the outdoor unit check to see if the reversing valve is getting 24 volts in cool, if not check to see if it is getting 24 volts in heating. The easiest way to check if the reversing valve is shifting, is to feel the big copper tube, (it is not the suction line on a heat pump) this is a refrigerant vapor line. It will be cold in cooling and hot in heating.
Check your thermostat installation instructions and heat pump installation instructions to determine the proper terminal designations for your heat pump and thermostat. There are some brands out there that use the B terminal as common to the 24 volt circuit, so you have to check the wiring and make sure this is not common.
If it is energized in Cool then the Y1 and O terminal will be energized. You will have 24 volts from common usually the C terminal to Y1 and O.
If it’s energized in Heat then the Y1 and B terminal should be energized. You will have 24 volts from common usually the C terminal to Y1 and B.
If you get heat when you’re calling for cooling or vice versa then switch the wire between the B and O terminals.

Heat pump heats with ac cool mode on dometic rv rooftop.


Sound like the change-over valve on the heatpump is not switching. Could be the valve is stuck, or bad. Or the thermostat is bad and will not send voltage, or is sending voltage to your change-over valve.

(Some systems energize the CO valve to cool, while others de-energize the valve).

Usually the color coding for the thermostat wires on a heatpump are orange and yellow. The yellow wire usually energizes the compressor contactor, and the orange wire energizes the changeover valve. Now depending on what your system does in terms of energizing or not energizing the CO valve to invoke heating or cooling mode is not known. You can try jumping across the thermostat to see if the CO valve is working. Or you can even try placing the stat in heating mode and see if you hear that loud "Woosh" when you switch between heating and cooling modes at the stat.

What often happens is the cylinder inside the CO valve gets stuck, especially if the system has sat off for an extended time. By workign the stat from heating to cooling (reversing the porting on the CO valve) will cause the valve to free itself up.

If you cannot hear that woosh as the changeover valve switches between heat and cooling, it is possible the CO valve is bad, or there is an issue in the electrical or control side of your system. Such as a bad base or switching circuit in your stat, or control issues other places.

AIR HANDLERS DO NOT ENERGIZE REVERSING VALVE , THE THERMOSTAT DOES THE JOB THROUGH THE O  OR B TERM TO THE OUTSIDE UNIT. IF YOU HOOK UP TO O TERM AND HEAT COMES ON WHEN YOU SET AC ON THEN SWITCH TO B TERM ON STAT. YOU SHOULD HAVE O TERM ON CONDENSER OUTSIDE AND YOU USE ORANGE WIRE IF YOU HAVE ONE. IF NOT USE UNUSED WIRE IN 6 WIRE STAT HARNESS.

I have a new 13 seer rheem 4 ton heat pump system the heat pump won't turn on in heat or in other words it is only working in cooling mode I wired it according to the schematic

Gold Star mini split heat pump 24,000 btu. Changed indooe as we as outdoor boards and still goes in cooling mode only. Reset button on outdoor board calls in heat but not by inside hand set. Len Cabana...

Replace Carrier tstatccshp01 builders standard thermostat with Honeywell rth7500 series and wiring not matching Does O wire go to Aux..? fan working but no cool air.


No... Aux. is auxiliary heat strip. This is usually a white or black wire its up to the choice of the installers preferance. O or orange wire. is used to the reversing valve on a heat pump. If you do have a heat pump there is a programing section inside the Honeywell t-stat. which should say heat pump or straight cool, then another section that will ask if you want the reversing valve to energize in heat or cool. most Heat Pump brands energize in cool the exception is Rheem and Ruud they energize in heat.
