Little red shield keeps telling me I have a security problem

This thing keeps popping up every half minute and if I ignore it , it continues into some scanning telling me to install virous remover 2008. Should I download or is it going to be a problem. Earlier today it was telling me I had some trojan horses. I ran my AVG scan and it found nothing.HELP!

Thank you for your suggestions. I have tried to right click on the red shield but it just insists on telling me I have a security problem. I also am using the latest version of AVG and have rerun the scan and found nothing and still have the problem. Any further ideas?

Okay, I have tried to install or have the housecall wizard do its thing. When I tried it, a pop up came up from ActiveX and i thought it was just another popup coming from the re shield and I stopped it. Now I read that I shouldn't have done that and can not get housecall to start again. Any more suggestions?

Quick question before I start crying...Does the progress thing on the lower left of Trend Micro normally show movement but still says "Idle"?
Could it still be working but just teking a little longer? As you can see, I am grabbing at straws.

  • davidthompso Jan 12, 2009

I don't know who it was that gave me the suggestion to do a restore, but that worked, at least temporarily. No more red shields, I hope. Thanks again, your a life saver.

Update your AVG and rescan your system, if there is a virus / spyware / trojan - this should be able to identify and resolve it. Alternately, right click on the red shield and disable it / put up a check on don't remind me again. (This i'm guessing is the windows firewall, you should be safe enough with just AVG running)

you can alternately try another online anti-virus scan to see if that can help fix your issue (Try : http://housecall.trendmicro.com/). If none are able to resolve this - you are better & safer off doing a full reinstallation of the system. Just keep a tab on the files you backup before you reinstall - coz, you might end up backing up the virus too.

Let me know how this helped!

ok... here is the last resort... Restart your system, just after your manufacturers logo - keep tapping the F8 key and you will get to the Advanced OS Menu that would have an option for SafeMode with Networking, choose this and log on to the system and you will be in a low resolution screen with network support. Not get back to the site and see if it can scan and fix your problem.

If this fails, Sadly - Reinstall is your option!

Since this is an online scan, i would suggest you give it more than ample amount of time to complete... and remember to keep your fingers crossed.

You have a Rouge Anti-Virus malware, this is a virus do not download it will make it worse, the idea is to take over your computer and force you to buy the antivirus program which is actually just a list of places to download free virus removal software, All is not lost, if you have Virus software do a scan now and try to find it, if not download AVG Free Anti-Virus and that will take care of it.These people are from Russia and once they get your credit card number they will try to empty your bank. Let me know if this helps and please rate this solution. lone99star

I have dealt with this problem many times and have always been able to clean it up, AVG is sometimes hit and miss on this one bacause it changes it's own file names upon deletion, AVG should have an update within the next few days, in the mean time you can restore to an earlier date when the system was clean, in a few days restore back to this date and update and run AVG again. Keep in mind that this malware is usually atached to a video file, when you are watching videos try not to ever accept a download popup. Hopre this helps and let me know how it goes. lone99star

  • Jason Morris Jan 12, 2009

By the way the little red shield you see is part of the malware, you can keep closing it and even find the file and delete it but it renames its self and loads up again.

  • Jason Morris Jan 12, 2009

You are going to be fine, don't do anything drastic, do a restore from a clean date and give AVG a day or so to update its definitions, dont reformat or delete your drive.

  • Jason Morris Jan 12, 2009

That was me lone99star that suggested the restore, I,m happy to help, I have dealt with this many times and your system will be fine, give AVG a few days and restore back to this date and AVG should get it clean, remember the restore helped but the malware is still on the drive it is just not active.
Let me know how it goes. lone99star

What does it mean when my worx battery charger has a solid red light.

according to manualslib type site for the wg540, solid red means charging for the wa3840 and wa3838. After 30 minutes if battery has not reached 10 volts (of 18), the red will begin flashing meaning defective.
Just green? Ready to go. Green flashing? Overheat.
Tangent; sometimes a discharged battery needs a little coaxing - have to get a little voltage into the battery for charger to try to charge. Different company, electric drill. I plead ignorance if this applies for the 3840 since they mention the half an hour time.

Disable Security Center Popup Notifications in Windows Vista

If you decide to turn off automatic updates, you’ll be annoyed to death with popup messages from the Security Center that tell you to “Check your computer security” or “Check your Firewall status” if you disabled the firewall. It’s a good thing you can turn those messages off.
Before we begin: I’d definitely recommend keeping the firewall enabled at all times.
annoying-popup-balloon.png
To disable the popup messages shown above, right-click on the little red shield icon and choose Open Security Center from the menu. You could also open Security Center from the start menu.

Click the link for “Change the way Security Center alerts me”

Now you’ll see a dialog with three choices. Choose the bottom one if you don’t want the notifications anymore.

Here are the Pin outs for different mics that will work with your radio. If a wire is not listed then you cut it off. It's best to keep the wires as short as possible no longer than a half inch is suggested. Normally the Cobra pin out is standard for most radios.

Stock - 1- Shield (Ground) 2- Yellow (Audio) 3- Red (Transmit) 4- White (Receive)

Astatic - (4 wire) 1- Shield 2- White 3- Red 4- Black

Astatic - (6 wire) 1- Shield & Blue 2- White 3- Red 4- Black Yellow NC

Daiwa EM-500, Cobra, CA Series - 1- Shield & Black 2- Red 3- White 4- Blue

Galaxy DC-521S - (4 wire) 1- Shield 2- Yellow 3- Red 4- Black

Galaxy CB-660EI - 1- Shield & Black 2- White 3- Red 4- Blue

Sadelta - 1- Shield 2- White 3- Brown 4- Green

A fella at work had this happen to his profile.
I fixed it for him.
I found http://www.2-viruses.com/remove-security-shield
on the above page it talks about putting in an activation code ( 64C665BE-4DE7-423B-A6B6-BC0172B25DF2 ) to the Security Shield app which shuts down the Security Shield and stops it from popping up.
Then you can delete it.

Have you tried resetting the printserver? I am assuming this is a networked printer when you say the red light on the back. There is a little button on the printserver. Turn printer off, and while pressing that little button in with a paperclip, turn the printer on and continue holding in the button until the light is a solid green. Could take a minute or two depending on the network.
