I have a maytag bottom freezer that ice builds up on the bottom and eventually leaks on the floor. I understand that the drain line is probably clogged. I also understand that the back panel is removable. My question is do you have to remove the bottom draw of the fridge and then remove the whole inside back panel and if so how do you remove the bottom draw?

SOURCE: Maytag model MQU1556AEW, frost-free freezer forms ice in bottom.

I'm not sure if this will help but the freezer that is located on the bottom of my refrigerator started forming ice on the back part where the cold air was supposed to be coming out. I kept hearing a hissing sound like water dripping on a hot surface. I called the repair man in and he had to replace the defrost timer. Once he did that it worked like a charm.

I am not an expert by any means although removing ice from a frost-free freezer is a pain and this took care of the problem for me. Good luck!

Ice build up on floor of freezer. can't figure where it is coming from. There is not a drain on bottom panel. Any suggestiuons? Frigidaire model no AFU2067BWL2

I know that your freezer shows a drain in its floor but there is also a drain behind the rear wall and at the bottom of a tray that collects the water during defrost and is surposed to drain that water that comes during defrost and then drains to a pan below the refrigerator and next to compressor. The solution will be to clean out this drain that is hidden from site behind the rear wall. I am pretty sure you are having a defrost drain blockage problem. Most defrost every eight hours and over a period of time the drain line that comes down from freezer into a cup like object top middle and back of the fresh food section. If blocked by gunk or ice you will see trails of liquid leaking down the rear wall of fresh food compartment until it reaches the crisper drawers. This is not always the same with every model as you may see frozen ice flowing down ther rear wall of freezers on side by sides. Here is an example Click here=> Whirlpool Leak Photo taken by TechnicianBrian He has been around a good bit and deserves credit for his contributions. Here is another way to make this look more si mple in clip below. TechnicianBrian.com And in this photo are several parts listed in photo group #1 were it is most likely running down the wall=> MagicChef CTB1921AR fresh food section. If you still have questions please ask and rate me if I was able to explain this well enough. Every refrigerator is made different so these are examples only. The key is to find if ice or just gunk has blocked you defrost drain. Unplug and then remove the rear panel in back of freezer. We need to see if the water is overflowing the condensate drain tray or if the blockage is in the turn the drain leads down back of your refrigerator. Much more on this page=> Leaking Refrigerators! This is a common tip so I will be placing this post and add as we go new ideas listed in Sea Breeze Tips Section. If you run into any problems along the way of repair please let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

JENN AIRE LEAKING WATER ON FLOOR. NOT SUPPLY LINE PROBLEM. HELP

Open freezer, remove lower crisper & look for solid ice on freezer floor & area at rear of freezer. If present, defrost drain is restricted. Depending on make & model remove ice, remove rear wall and clear defrost drain trough and drain path. Verify by removing kick panel, pour a cup of near boiling water through drain and watch as it drains into pan. Once clear, pour one ounce of bleach into drain tube. Also check as water is draining into pan that the pan is not leaking due to pan cracks. This solution is based on the fact that you are stating no hoses are bad.

Ice keeps forming on the bottom of the freezer - like a leak on the back side flows into the bottom toward the door.

When a refrigerator leaks water like yours, it is common for the problem to be nothing more than a clogged defrost drain. When the unit defrosts itself, the frost melt water drips into a pan underneath the evaporator in the freezer, and goes through a tube from there to the bottom outside of the unit. Since the water cant go down this drain, it backs up on the freezer floor, then eventually the kitchen floor.

get down on the floor and look along the bottom of the door to make sure that the door seals are touching.if not and you have an air leak it will cause frost.if its ice and not frost then check all vents/drains are clear.

Leeking water inside fridge from top

Defrost drain is clogged. This accessable thru the back wall of the freezer. Also depending on your model some also have removable Bottom floors of freezer that also get ice accumulation. When the defrost drain gets clogged water from the defrost cycle has no where to go so it stays and accumulates ice till eventually it leaks into the fresh food section. Clear the drain completly and you will have no more problems.

Found water leaking from our maytag side by side model MSD2142ARW. Disconnected ice maker 4 weeks ago thinking it was that, and still leaking and has ruined my new laminate floors. Is the freezer gasket or...

The defrost drain hole in the freezer side is frozen closed.
Turn off the fridge.Remove the bottom bin and look on the back wall of the freezer for the drain pan. It will have a block of ice in it. Use a hair dryer to defrost the pan AND the drain hole inside the pan, until you can pour a cup of water through the drain hole.

Water pools at bottom of freezer, freezes and water leaks out

Hello, this sounds like you have a blockage in the drain tube, remove bottom shelf from fridge and remove the styrofoam..you may see ice build up...melt ice with hair dryer/heat gun...you will see a pan below evaporator...melt ice in pan...dry water up in pan with paper towel...now you should see a hole in pan that leads to drain tube...pour some hot water in pan..wait a couple minutes..mop up water and repeat this step 2-3 times....once you have done this find some flexible curatain wire or electrical wire..poke down the hole until you see the water drain..now it is clear..put back panel back and you are good to go. The reason you see water in the Freezer is because the water has been leaking into the freezer instead of running into the drain hole...Please feel free to comment again if you need any further assistance. Water in the floor

there is a drain hose that comes out of the bottom of the cabinet into a drain pan underneath your freezer take a look and see if that got pulled loose during your move. if it is in place then you most likely have a plugged drain. this can be cleaned fromt he inside at the botom. reomve the bottom basket and the shelf right above it. you will see ice build up on the floor of the freezer and and behind the cover. just defrost the ice you will uncover the drain hole flush warm water thru the line till it runs clear. good luck peyton

Maytag side by side freezer leaking water and icing in bottom

Defrost drain system is plugged and not draining out the back and into the drain collector. There is normally an air trap in this drain line under the back and behind a fiber removable panel. Check this trap and make sure it is clear of any blockage. You will then have to defrost the freezer and clear out the ice. Don't forget to replace the back fiber panel.
