Sent away 2new belts for dyson dco4 hoover after the one i replaced snapped .after awhile i emailed the firm who assured me were the correct size+ number, after a fight i got the belt onit was on 4or 5...

These are a difficult set of belts to replace. If you don't have everything just right when you reassemble the clutch or if there are any restrictions in the brush roll it will not work properly. It's best to test the clutch assembly in both positions after installing the new belts to make sure you did it correctly before putting it back in the vacuum.

Replaced drive belt for beater bar, but now beater bar motor will not engage/turn on.

The most likely problem is something was not put back together properly in the clutch. You can move the belts by hand with the clutch out of the machine. Move the motor belt and switch the lever off and on and see if the brush belt is turning on and off. It not you will need to take the clutch apart and reassemble it. Test it before installing.

Hi there,

The DC17 doesn't use a clutch-based brush control system, so you may be referring to a different Dyson model. So we can determine exactly which machine you own, and offer the support you need as quickly as possible, please get in touch with us directly. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). We'll look forward to hearing from you.

The belt on my Dyson is making a terrible loud grinding sound after I removed the brush roller.

The sound is the clutch mechanism. That is a safety feature. It sounds like you have trapped the belt when you reinstalled it. If not, the brush roller bearings may be seized?
Take it apart again, spin the brush roller in your hand. Make sure it is free. When you reassemble it, before you refit the sole plate, turn the brush a few times with your fingers to make sure the belt finds its home on the roller. Only then refit the sole plate. Turn it again when fitted before you run it to make sure the brush is turning freely.
Then, make sure the clutch is engaged, see this article for more on clutches: DC14 clutch and brush roller

My dyson 17 animal started shutting itself off today.I cleaned all out, but it has almost no suction when upright, none with tho hose

This video is for replacing the clutch and belts, but you can also use this video to dis-assemble and reassemble to take out hose underneath to inspect for damage. If there's a hole in the hose, you may be losing suction.

Can the belt in the clutch be replaced or do I have to buy a new clutch and belt assembly?

You don't need to replace the whole clutch, you can replace just the belt. You can get the clutch belt and the brush roll belt combo pack for the DC07 here:

Dyson DC07

Depending on wether your machine has A clutch fitted will decide how easy this job will be.

The non clutched model is very simple turn the 3 plastic screws on sole plate to unlock position lift plate off remove belt from motor shaft & lift out brush roller.
Replace belt & roller fit sole plate & its done.

The clutched version will require the removing of the sole pate,
Then remove brush roller. & brush roller housing.
Then remove clutch cover,
Replace both belts & reassemble.

Its A lot to explain in great detail so try this site if your struggling.
