Sorry, but your subject line was too long and it got cut off.

I'm assuming your cooktop light blew and even though you installed a new one, it still won't come on?

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inoperable or stuck on too.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Banging on the control panel got it working would indicate a bad connection inside, not a short. Could be anything from a bad wire connection to a cracked solder joint on the main board.

Sharp r2103j microwave lights on doenst heat up

No heat, but unit seems to run normally in all other ways - possible causes: failure of high voltage rectifier, shorted high voltage capacitor, magnetron failure, power transformer open/shorted winding(s), thermal protector open, or no 120 v supplied to power transformer.

The circuit breaker continues to blow off. I believe this occurs when the heating element is activated. I have replaced the heating element. The problem persists. The isolator bushings seemed to be OK....

Hi.SHORT CIRCUIT MIGHT HAPPEN I THE HEATER.IC'S MIGHT HAVE BEEN DAMAGE.or short may try to check it using a multitetster.Set it to ohms .and check continuity of the circuit. If pointer goes rapidly more than its maximum then there is short circuit in the heater.hope this helps..

Ge microwave jvm160wj01 was working and suddenly started buzzing, gave bad electric/burnt smell and buzzes. Still buzzes and does not seem to heat now.

Sounds like the magnetron just shorted out. Its the part the generates the microwaves that heat the food. Buzzing sounds are a symptom of a shorted mag. Usually not worth fixing since the magnetron costs almost as much as a new oven. Sorry.

My RFS12MPS runs for around 5 secs, and then trips

Sounds like you have a intermittant shorting high voltage capacitor. I have had several of these that check good at rest then short after power is applied then un short by the time you put your meter on it to see if it is shorted. Best suggestion it to substitute the capacitor. The only othe rpossibility is you HV transformer is shorting out. You can completly disconnect the leads to the xfrm and run 120v to the primary. if it draws over 15 amps it is shorted. if it is shorted it could draw up to 30 amps. I would try subbing thecapacitor and if that does not cure it, it is most likely the Xfmr.

Ge jes1358wk02 microwave... controls seem to operate runs... capacitor check ok as does magnetron... but no heat... possibly a little on some cycles... suspect problem is with...

When a high voltage fails, it shorts. Almost always. I've never seen one open, anyway.

If it's not shorted, it's probably okay.

Generally, the most common causes of a failure to heat are:

- bad door switches or door switch mounts
- loose connection at the magnetron
- problem or loose connection on the control unit circuit board
- bad magnetron or other high voltage part (such as a shorted diode)

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and
disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa:
