Trying setup my email on my samsung star how do i do it

First of all go into messages, then settings, then email, then email accounts. you need to click on an empty account, or if you don't have any spares you can click on an existing account that you don't use and just change the settings. You will get a "Welcome to the mailbox setup wizard" message and you need to click "yes". Now enter your mailbox name - this isn't anything to do with hotmail's settings so call it what you please. I just called mine "Hotmail" ! Now click "next" and select "POP3" from the list of mailbox types. Click "next" again and enter your email address in full (???? or Now scroll down to the "User ID" field and enter your email address in full again, exactly the same as you've just done. Scroll down again and enter your password (remember that it is still case sensitive as it would be on a pc).

Now click "next" and enter "" into the "POP3 server" field. Click next again and enter "" into the "SMTP server" field. Click next again and you will see a "mailbox setup wizard is complete" message. Now click ok and you will see that your email account has been added to the list of accounts (numbered 1 to 5).

At this point the setup is not complete as you need to tweak some additional settings to get your phone to work with hotmail! Staying in the same menu, select the account you have just created and press "select". Scroll down to the "Incoming email server" field and select it with the raised middle key to access more settings (as opposed to clicking "save"). Your POP3 port should be "995" and you need to make sure that the "secure connection" and "secure login(APOP)" boxes are checked. Now click "save" and scroll down to the "outgoing email server" field and again select it with the middle key as opposed to clicking "save". Your SMTP port should be 465 and the "use SMTP authentication" and the "same ID and password" boxes should both be checked. Scroll down and make sure the "secure connection" and "connect to POP3 server first" boxes are also checked. Now click "save" and then click "save" again.

This should now mean your hotmail will work. There are other settings you can tweak such as the "check interval" (how often your phone automatically checks your email) and the "download limit". These can be found in menu-> messaging-> settings-> email and then either "sending options" or receiving options" depending on which options you wish to tweak :o) Also don't forget to make sure you have the correct GPRS settings from your service provider or you won't be able to make a connection to download your email!

Finally, to check your email, go to menu-> messaging-> my messages-> email inbox-> "account name" (the name of the account you have just created). From here you can press the middle raised key to check for new emails, or use the "options" to do this or create a new email :o)
I really hope this helps people, and I apologise for being long winded in my explanation, but I am all too aware of how easy it is to get "lost in translation

Hi, I'm having problems connecting my LG Prada KF900 phone to email setup from my hotmail account. Please can you advise how this can be fixed? Thanks

this is hhow i set mine up

go to messaging then settings then go to mailbox > email accounts> add account.

enter your email and password>click continue

then its going to ask u for ur user id from ur email provider which is ur email address again, enter email address>press continue

mailbox type
POP3 > press continue

incoming server: >press continue

outgoing server:>press continue

turn on the SMTP authentication>press continue

then its going to ask for SMTP username which should auto fill your email and password already. >press continue

Enter your account name it should autofill Hotmail but u can put anything i believe. then press continue its going to ask you "Update Inbox Now?" press yes. its going to ask you for WIFI connection. chose ur wifi connection if available. if your like me and have WAP on ur phone. just click done or back and its going to give u an error like network open fail or something. Ignore it. Then itll say account is added and ready for use something similar. Click on the account. and its going to show you the settings, if you scroll down youll find "access points" change that from WIFI to WAP Settings or whatever your internet setting were set under. then activate. There you will also find other settings like if you want it to auto retrieve and what not choose what u like.

Let me know if you get a problem!

Subscribe to packet data first..

Here is what to do : In opera mini check what type of connection is been set . There are to types [HTTP , SOCKET] . Just try to switch between them and you'll solve the problem . For me [SOCKET] is always better , because [HTTP] takes long time to load a page . If that didn't solve the problem , then in the phone , go to SETTINGS and make sure that all applications are allowed to use your preferred access point as default for Applications .
your rating is very important for me , that's why I've helped you .

good luck .

Application and url gprs

hi there! thanks for using!

Just a little bit of information:

General packet radio service (GPRS) is a packet oriented mobile data service available to users of the 2G cellular communication systems global system for mobile communications (GSM), as well as in the 3G systems. In the 2G systems, GPRS provides data rates of 56-114 kbit/s.
GPRS data transfer is typically charged per megabyte of traffic transferred, while data communication via traditional circuit switching is billed per minute of connection time, independent of whether the user actually is using the capacity or is in an idle state. GPRS is a best-effort packet switched service, as opposed to circuit switching, where a certain quality of service (QoS) is guaranteed during the connection for non-mobile users.

The Nokia 3650 comes with all the software you need to connect to the Internet. Although the phone doesn't have a built-in web browser, it can access Internet content via the Wap browser (from the 'Services' menu). You can also set up the phone to access email via the messaging application. This page provides details of how to get access to email on the move with your 3650. For help with Wap, see the menu on the left

Problems connecting?
  • Ensure that your Network operator (e.g. Orange, o2, Vodafone) has 'data-enabled' your SIM card. If not, call their Customer Service people.

  • Problems with GPRS. If connecting with GPRS, you need to make sure your network operator has enabled GPRS on your account. For more on this, and other GPRS troubleshooting help, see our GPRS page
Problems sending emails
  • If you get an error such as "Problem sending message", you may be trying to send a message to one ISP's mailbox while connected to a different ISP. To prevent spamming, most ISPs require you to connect to their service (not someone else's) in order to send an email via their SMTP server. For instance, don't be surprised if you find that can't send mail from your BT Yahoo account (using the server address if you've logged on to Virgin Media.
Problems retrieving emails
  • If attempting to retrieve email gives you a "General: System error", make sure you have "Gateway IP address" set to (Tools | Settings | Connection | Access points)
This message also appears if you are trying to connect to an email account over a WAP connection (e.g. trying to connect to BT Yahoo's mailbox while dialed up over o2's WAP service).
Problems logging in
  • If, when attempting to log in, you're constantly prompted for your password, even though you know you're typing in the right password, there are two possible causes. If you're already logged in (via a web browser or a PC program like Outlook, then you're often not allowed to log on via a second device. Make sure you're not already connected to your email provider on another machine. The other thing to check is that you're account hasn't been temporarily locked as you may have made repeated attempts to log on incorrectly. Many ISPs allow you to check your mail via a web service... it may be worth trying this to make sure your account is working properly and there are no problems at your ISP.
Problems with GPRS
  • Most mobile phone operators use different APNs (Access Point Nodes) for WAP-over-GPRS and email-over-GPRS. The upshot of this is that you can't connect to your email server over a GPRS WAP connection. Additionally, you may need to have your network operator enable access to the Internet/email GPRS service.

Problems with o2 - If you experience a "GPRS: Invalid GPRS access point" error when attempting to connect to, say, Virgin Media, over o2 via their APN, this is likely to be for one of two reasons - either you have not entered the correct o2 Mobile Web APN settings, or o2 has not enabled "Mobile Web" on your account (in which case, contact o2).
Hope this will help you a lot! Cheers! don't forget to mark!! thanks!
