SOURCE: Hotpoint VTD00 Tumble dryer. Motor runs ok without

The motor is bad and needs replaced. It could be the contacts or the bearings, either way you have to replace the motor.

Motor problem

Most likely causes are
  1. Glazed drive belt.
  2. Worn out belt tensioner
  3. Drum bearings getting worn out.

Motor making noise

DRYER MAKES NOISES.

A loose or worn BELT can make funny noises

Or the idler pulley that puts tension on the dryer drum drive belt could be worn out. If the pulley is bad we recommend also replacing the belt.

The glides on drum worn and making metal to metal contact.

The drum slides or glides support the front of the drum. As the drum rotates over the years, the glides wear out and then the dryer makes noise. Replace all of the glides as a set if they are worn out.

CHECK FOR LOOSE BELLOES inside the drum

Sometimes an item can get stuck inbetween the drum and the housing and scrape and grind making funny noises, things like coins, bra wire, nails, hair pins, etc sometimes u can just remove the cabinet and observe by turning the drum by hand or looking for scratch or scrape marks on housing.

The blower:

Clumps of lint, socks, and other small articles of clothing can get past the lint filter and into the blower wheel. If the dryer makes noise, and the noise seems to be at a very fast pace, there might be something caught in the blower wheel. In addition, the blower wheel sleeve might be worn out, allowing the blower wheel to wobble on the motor shaft. If this happens, replace the blower wheel.

The bearings:

The drum bearing supports the rear of the dryer drum. If the dryer makes noise this bearing might be worn out. Replace the bearing if it is worn out. Do not lubricate the bearing, the lubrication will attract lint and dirt and accelerate the wearing process.

The bearings TEST by moving drum by hand u may be able to feel loose or rough movement. And listen to sounds when turning it.

The drum rollers or castors:

It is very common for dryer drum rollers to wear out. If the dryer makes noise, particularly a loud rumbling noise, one or more of the rollers may be worn out. After removing the drum from the dryer, inspect the rollers.

Check for cracks, dryness, or damage and not engaging drum properly. Sometimes u can use high density LITHIUM BASE gear grease to re oil/grease them.

2) Lube the rollers bearing too
3) test the motor for bearing need repair
4) test the drive belt for broken or worn.
5) test the puller for drive motor, can be worn, and replace.
God bless you

Saw will not turn on with out spinning blade by hand in time with throwing the switch. also can i get a bearing replacement kit?

It sounds like a starter winding is shot or worn out, Usually motors like this don't have the starter windings in them, they just start, check the brushes and make sure the armature is clean. The bearings don't come in a kit, You will have to take the motor apart and press the bearings off and match them up at the auto parts store, don't waste your time trying to explain to them what it is for, just give them the number. For some reason they have to have the year, make, and model, or they go ballistic. The capacitor, if it has one, will usually cause the motor not to run if it is bad. Check it out, hope this helps.

How do you know if the motor is going bad? Sometimes when I start it the motor will hum for a few seconds and them will start real slow. other times it wont start at all. can I isolate the motor to see if...

Three possibilities: the drum bearings may be worn causing hard turning, the motor bearings may be about worn out allowing the rotor to contact the stator inside the motor, and last, but maybe the most likely, the start capacitor, which is mounted near the motor, may be going bad causing weak starts at first, then no-start/loud humming finally. Take the belt off of the motor pulley and start the dryer--the motor should almost instantly be running full speed. You can test the motor bearings (when motor is OFF) by trying to push/pull the shaft in various directions sideways. Any obvious slop is a sign of worn bearings. Try turning the drum by hand to see if it turns fairly freely. Hope this helps!

Maytag LDG7600 hums when start is pressed but motor doesn't turn. Disengaged the belt and cannot turn motor shaft by hand.

you should check inside the blower wheel to be sure there is not something blocking the wheel. if not then the motor might have locked up bearings.you can try to free it up and oil the bearings, but if they are stuck they are worn and will not last for long if you do get it to turn again.
most likely you will have to replace the motor.

Clotes come out soaked

The spin bearing or basket drive maybe worn or seized. Lubrication maybe needed. The motor starting torque is not sufficient to spin the tub during start-up. Check also the motor rotor. When turned by hand, it must spin freely. Lubricate if necessary. Otherwise the bearings/bushings are worn out and needs alignment or replacement. You may need the service of a qualified appliance repair technician.

Fan kicks on but

motor mount loose, fan grate loose, fan off balance, or the motor bearings could be wearing out. put your hand on the top of the motor grate. if by you putting your hand on it the buzzing stops, the hardware may need tightening. if it vibrates violently, the fan is off balance or the motor bearings are worn. if the blades are bent, you may be able to bend them back. if the bearings are shot, you need a new motor.

Gas dyer won't start, have to kick start it.

If your bearing, glides, and idler are all fine then your motor is gone.
You could apply some zoomoil to that motor but you will have to drill some access holes as the manufacturer does not provide any. For $150 bucks a pop I would try a $2 bottle of High temp zoomoil from ace hardware first.Use a 1/6th inch drill bit and do not hit the shaft. The bearing wells are on either side of the motor and you will have to take the drum out to get to the motor. To access the dryer innards open the door and remove the screws holding down the top. Get the top out yer way and remove the front. Get the drum out and clean out the dryer. Send me any folding money you find. LOL You may find enough change in the dryer to buy some oil. Zoomoil is use for HVAC. It is heat resistant and does not disapate. After filling each bearing work the motor by hand till it loosens up. Oil the idler check the slides and the rear bearing for wear.743d531.jpg

My tablesaw wont speed up and run. Bosch 4000 ten inch. It makes a klunk and starts to turn and slowly speeds up until its running, but still makes a knocking sound

Is it spinning the blade at all? If it is then it is unlikely to be an electrical fault. Have you considered a motor bearing fault? If the motor bearings are worn, it could turn freely by hand, but when powered up it would stutter and stall. The motor is basically a big electro-magnet so if the armature has enough lateral movement, when it is magnetized it could rub against the stator.
If the machine is buzzing, but not spinning the blade it is more than likely going to be caused by a faulty capacitor as this is the component that gives the motor the initial 'kick' in the right direction to get it spinning.
